The new Ruger American or a used Savage 11/111 etc. would be in that range, though, if he opted for a synthetic stock. They're both tackdrivers that should stand the test of time very well. I see used Savages in the local gun rag for $350 with Bushnell or Tasco 3x9 or 4x10 scopes all the time.
Although I do wonder sometimes about the longevity of the "glass bedding" technique that all the rifle manufacturers are using now.

X2 on the combos. I bought my Remington 700 as a combo because Dick's was running a ridiculous sale where the combo was cheaper than just the gun alone would have been, but the scope that it came with wouldn't hold a zero for sh*t. Hence the upgrade a couple of months ago; I finally got sick of rezeroing it every hunting season and not having it hold.

    Congrats on the Birthday, Mike!

Good to know if I ever need to do this. Sounds a hell of a lot easier than the starter I helped replace on a 99 Sentra. They put it above the slushbox behind the engine.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
He's got a 4banger so don't get excited. I had to replace my starter after treating my truck like a sub and I'll tell you it's not that quick.

It's under the exhaust manifold on the driver's side. No room to get it out from underneath. Has to go out the driver's side wheel well opening which has the steering column and the brake lines as well. Only comes out/goes in one way.

My spy shot is of Scotty's truck. He pops in once in a while. Although I did see a lifted Tacoma with orange beadlocks that I didn't recognize.

Jason, it was only easy because there is a lot of room with the 4 cyl to wiggle it out from the side or the bottom. Also it was the same method to take out the starter that was on my dad's 95 Tacoma (he had to replace that one as well, and he helped me yesterday).

No, but I'm working on this fine holiday (and it's a beautiful day today), which makes everybody who's not working today a mofo. :D
