I had my truck inspected at the cranbrook BC Toyota dealer before purchasing from a private seller, and they pointed out the broken leaf. They wouldn't budge on the tsb for new leafs, so I bought the truck and bought wheelers hd springs and installed them. I hope I can get a refund when this recall becomes clear.

Had this happed twice. Once they replaced it for free. The other time they charged me and I argued and only had to pay $180. I never got a notice but if/when I do I'm looking at getting my money back.

Probably have the only 2nd Gen with an 8274 in the world.
Great, rear leaf's on my '07 suck and this is after I had the weak TSB done. Thanks for staying on top of this kind of stuff.

Hmm, so it sounds like the gist of the problem is the above the axle mount. Too much stress on the springs I presume. I dont think another clamp would alleviate future breakage, just containment if it breaks, but I'm no spring expert. Sounds like the fix is still up in the air with the TBD line.

The problem isn't the leaf pack breaking. It is a broken leaf rotating into the fuel tank, puncturing it and the leaking gas possibly catching fire. IE: the fire is the reason for the recall...

Adding the clip will prevent the leaf from rotating into the fuel tank, thus preventing the fire. With the spring under axle guys, the broken leaf must not be able to reach the fuel tank.

I'm pretty certain the fix is going to be a spring clip. The questions are, "Is Toyota going to replace currently broken leaf packs" and "Are they going to refund people who had to replace a broken leaf pack out of pocket already"

Leaf springs are a wear item, they either sag horribly and need replaced, or break and flop around.....which ovbiously means they need replaced lol :)

They probably won't admit to it if there was one.
