DIY Expo Bed

Saw this today, pretty badass. Hopefully it helps stir some creative get'r done if anybody has been curious how to build.

Looks like nice work and good use of space

 

seen it many times with these small trucks, s-10, ranger, Tacoma ,Nissan, etc.

it works great until it gets wet or you put too much weight in it, then it falls apart and warps.

the idea is sound but if its wood you HAVE TO have a bed cover to keep it dry but it would be best to build this out of aluminum sheet metal, then weather wouldn't affect it.

My topper leaks like a sieve in each of the 4 corners. You'd have to store everything in dry bags and shellack the hell out of that wood.

I prefer the Baja Tacoma myself, but that's neither here nor there.

 

Obviously it needs a weatherproof cap to cover it.

 

Wood is DIYable for anybody, which I suppose is the point. For my area, this would work great. Anyway, my mom sent that link to me, I liked seeing the detail pics.

Not everybody can weld or afford to make this setup out of aluminum and/or steel. Posted specifically for not those people.

Nice, but it's a carpet kit with a slide out. Very nice work, and dam nice plywood.
Of course, the carpet is missing. My S10 has a carpet kit. I never use it for sleeping during a camping trip. The truck is always full of gear. The locking shell is used for security not sleeping. For flexibility a lot of time that center section needs to be lowered. In a carpet kit, it is also in two pieces for more flexibility. On the sides there are three hatches with hinges, & three compartments. It's amazing how well engineered they are if you think about them. That box is going be in the way a lot of the time.
