Pretty sure I'm going to do the ENH fall crawl. You should go. John and Graydon (saltus) are going too.

Icon MT suspension, Pelfreybuilt front bumper, Relentless skids, Avid sliders, Avid custom rack. Pelfreybilt HC Rear bumper.
I have Cooper ST on Gen 1 wheels (16X7). Have Icon extended travlel suspension which when compressed is same as stock suspension compressed. Fits fine with the mud flaps off. Same tires on Method 16X8 wheels rubs in front just backing out the driveway. The Cooper 255's look better on a 7" wide wheel anyway in my opinion.

I have the stock TRD 16x7 wheels. I understand that with a 3 inch lift I can run the 255/85r16 on the stock wheels without any rubbing. (this looks questionable with the 265/70r16's that are on there now. They look pretty close to the upper control arm as is and a taller tire looks like it would hit.) If I went to an aftermarket wheel with a 16x8 or 17x8 with 4.5 inch backspacing it sounds like i might have a problem getting the 255s to tuck under the fender at that point. does that sound right?

Since the 255's are narrower, I would think you would rub less on the UCA. I just barely rub the UCA at full lock on 265/70/17 with stock sport wheels. Shouldn't be any worse on the 255's?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong

I like 'em. And much quieter than my duratrac 265/75-16's. Had to trim a little in the front fender wells.. I have 1.25 wheel spacers and a couple inches lift.

They will get louder as they wear. I still like them though. I hardly have any lift at all and still have all mudflaps intact. Just a mall crawler though.

Just put on my Cooper ST Maxx tonight. Stock height and 16" steelies no trimming but had to remove my front flaps. (slight rub on drivers side) I will update when I get some miles on them. Pics to come also...

The wheels are from '96 - '04 4-runners. Its the spare rim. They are 16x7 and have around 3/4 inch less backspacing than 05+ Tacoma wheels. I bought them from local salvage yards for $30 each. LKQ has a ton of them. They have 18 holes. The 05+ taco spare rim is also 16x7, it has 16 holes - 15 are round, 1 is oval next to the valve stem.

Because of the backspacing, you must run a spacer to clear the caliper on the front of an 05+ Taco. The minimum required is a 1/4 inch non-bolt-on type. I ran like that for a week or so while I was waiting for 1.25 inch bolt-on spacers to arrive - which I now run on all four wheels. The 1/4 spacer works, but it reduces the threads the lug nuts can grab a little too much for my comfort. Best bet is to go with bolt-on spacers.

I don't understand why you are having to run spacers when it is a Toyota specific rim? I have a 16 hole spare that came with my truck and it clears the cals fine on the front. And if the runner wheels have even less back spacing then you really shouldn't have to run spacers

You're right, it isnt so much the backspacing as it is the shape of the steel wheel. I can assure the inside of the wheel touches the caliper if not using a spacer when running the older 4runner 18 hole wheel.
