Which Pop & Lock?

I want to install an electric Pop & Lock on my new Tacoma, and see that the 8521 is listed for $99 on the Pop & Lock website, but is only $80 on Amazon, but with a problem: The amazon website satys it won't fit the 2015, and the picture is way different than I've seen on several installation videos.

My question is, did Amazon FU the picture ID, or could there actually be two different 8521 units? I'm confident that they haven't updated the year model compatibility, but that picture throws me a curve.

I won't be taking delivery until early November, but I want all my goodies waiting, safely tucked in my garage!

 

Berk, What specifically is the problem with the P&P? If it is the actuator, I won't use it, but if the single mounting bolt, I'll be able to secure it better.

Rock Lobster, I tried to check the Dynolock, but no picture, no info available. Does this one replace the OEM handle? I'd rather leave the original handle in place. I love the reference to American as opposed to Chinese!

One other thing I'm concerned with... If I get the automatic version and the actuator takes a dump, I'm SOL, but the combo unit would be vulnerable to thieves just because of the key lock. Can't win for losing.

I did determine that the same Amazon P&P picture was used for multiple model applications, so that question seems to be answered.

PL8521 does not replace the OEM handle which is why I bought it for my 2014. I see no problem with it. I would guess it will work just fine on your 2015.

 

Thanks, I knew that. I'd still like to compare to the Dynolock, but no credible info seems to be available. Their website really sucks, so maybe that's a clue right there.

 

Seems like things might have changed, website actually looks pretty good now, and their contact info, both by e-mail and phone (not to mention their IP address is exposed) are listed right there.

They seem to also have the automatic locks (perhaps electric/electronic would be a better term.

And their "Bully Locks" which may or may not have been the original DynoLock http://www.dynolockproducts.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2 is pretty scary "made in China" comes with "no warranty. And of course, since no product for Tacos are listed...

So, reviewing the chatter on TW ref the aftermarket tailgate handles (If I really want to secure my tailgate, I'd think one of the locks on the hinge part makes more sense. HOWEVER, what I want to do is put a rear view camera onto my truck as unobtrusively as possible, as I am pretty rough on things, especially my truck.

 

Nope, nothing has changed. No picture, no installation video, just a scant description. Taco9C is what I want to compare to, automatic lock for handles with camera, the one you didn't know about.

I did get the P&P 8521 from Amazon despite the picture they have online. Saved some bucks getting it from Amazon!

It is in fact the correct part, and incorrect picture. Well built unit, looks even better than in the P&P installation video. Still waiting for my new Taco, it should be in transit as I type this!

Look for a picture install from me in a few weeks, as I intend to overkill the install due to the bad reviews on the single mount bolt issue.

I bought a new 2014 Tacoma last year, I contacted etrailer.com and they got me in touch with POP and lock. I ended up getting a free Pop & lock out of the deal since I got my truck around late Sept they hadn't tested it yet. Was going to say, contact them and maybe you could get a free lock for doing a review. Granted you already ordered it!

Doesn't hurt to try!

 

Coop, good to hear that. I'm all for free stuff! I do shop around for the best price after deciding what I want, and in this internet shopping world, it pays to do just that.

One thing I've learned about product reviews: Never read the excellent reviews, always read the fair to midlin' reviews, and just forget about the zero value rant reviews.
