How will both thicknesses hold up to consolidated weight, such as a bed rack/bed bars, or someone standing on the rail?

    I've decided on 11 gauge.

This is part of the truck that routinely gets stepped on. 14 Gauge might ripple and curl from that, and I want this component to be like armor, and I want it to always stay straight and look good.

The difference in shipping cost would only be like $10.

The difference in the cost of the product won't be much either. The majority of the cost in something like this comes from manufacturing and powder coating, not material cost.

11 Gauge will also look beefier and give you more confidence in the product.

Got me sold except for the holes on the topside. Make it without the holes?

I think the holes will be very useful, and they won't have any adverse effects.

Wouldn't the holes allow rain/moisture to get inside the fender?

Subbed. Curious how this would fit on flat top fiberglass fenders for added top support. Have been trying to figure out how to fit a camper shell on glass fenders...this might be the fix to prevent the weight from cracking the glass...

Also, for those with camper shells thst curve down to fit over your bed tops, I asked a dealer about that and they said they can order them flat on the bottom, or cut it flat for me, obviously with no damaged paint. So that's a thought for those with existing shells, maybe take it to a dealer and see if they can cut it for you. And by dealer I mean a camper shell store...not Toyota lol

If anything, that's a good thing. Water doesn't hurt metal, mud and salt being left on the metal is what does damage.

Look at all the holes that are already on the top rail. The factory caps do nothing to seal them, so water gets in there no matter what.

With holes, making a watertight seal with campers and tonneau covers is a problem. What's the need for holes? Tie downs all over the place anyway.

It won't effect the seal in any way. There is still plenty of material around the hole for a tonneau cover or camper to seal against, and underneath the rail will be sealed with gasket material.

The holes add a little more functionality, and they help the appearance by eliminating some of the negative space that the large, flat surface of the cap has.

I asked about material thickness. One or two guys isn't going to change my mind on the holes.

Uh...he just answered you. These rails are literally better than stock stuff. Did you notice the pictures he posted...under your rails are a boatload of holes...so your 'water tight' is sort of moot at that point, as we all know how well the stock rails last...Sooooooo yea

That's good. Make what you want to make. You already knew what you were going to do anyway, why ask the consumer what he wants?
