Chad, I'd like mine without holes and little swirly welds all over it. I'm the customer, I'm always right.

Now that is funny right thur

Is there a reason why the tailgate reinforcement is strong enough at 14 gauge but not the side rails? Is this because the tailgate plate is shorter, therefore has more rigidity/strength? Color me curious.

The tailgate cap doesn't have large flat spans of sheet metal, and it has more bends.

    Bends = strength

Since the side cap won't have an outside bend, it needs to be thicker.

I want 300 pound guys to be able to stand on these without deforming them.

Hey so swirly welds might actually be a thing. Can't have those 300 pound good Ole boys slipping and falling off

Chad stated that the thickness was the question ... why do y'all have to be such dicks ... no one is twisting your arms to purchase them ...

Chad ... the tailgate is incredible ... count me in ...

You can take your holes and... Errr this conversation is getting off on the wrong foot.

Idea for the holes lining up with the oem holes is a good one in my book. If the holes can have a lip that drops inside over lapping at least 1/16th under the OEM metal I think this would significantly increase stiffness and strength when tying down gear. You know some one will over load the intended design then want to go pointing fingers. Build it bullet proof and idiot proof and you should be good.

On a related topic, last night I watched One S10 Blazer pulling a full size Bronco with the little 200# rated rope you find at Home Depot or Lowes. Do not know if they both made it home. This is why I always over engineer things.

Any chance of a heat treated 6061 rails? You get the strength without the weight.

I know ... I know ... it's just that people feel as if they're entitled to get what they want ... here is a guy making a quality product ... for not a hell of a lot of $$$ I may add and he catches shit ... I bit my tongue for a few moments but it hurt like hell ...

Chad, made me very happy to see this thread on the homepage. Glad you decided to make another product. I look forward to seeing pictures of the product.

x2, these are worth talking about. Whether they are feasible or not I do not know, but I want to hear your reply.

My own question: Is there any chance of making an outer bend to fold over the bedside like the OEM rails do(Like a small lip)? This would also strengthen the product.

I was wondering the same thing, not only for strength, but I know that my stock caps have already worn away the paint in some spots. If these don't have an outside bend, they won't cover that and it probably won't look very good...

Both great ideas, but I can't do either one of them, unfortunately.

My shop doesn't have the capability to extrude material through the holes. They will be burned out of flat sheet via a high def plasma table.

Heat treated 6061 would also be great, but it works out much better if I work within the confines of the materials that we keep in stock. Also, our plasma table does not burn a good clean edge on aluminum. It looks like shit, unfortunately.

That was my original intention, but if you sight down the side of the bed, you'll see that it has quite a curve to it, just like the tailgate.

With the tailgate cap, the gaps at the end are no problem at all, but I think it wouldn't look right with the side rail caps.

I figured that would probably be the reason.
Chad, are you open to product suggestions via PM?

I'm OK with the holes. I may find rubber/plastic plugs to fill the holes when not being used, similar to what other trucks use to hide the 2x4 lumber holes.
