Can't you pick up a built out lower (with basic parts of course) for like $150?

I dig the look, but like Polymerhead said...I paid 1/5 of that for my last stripped lower

I had a post that I deleted that said something to the effect of Seekings make awesome rings & mounts but that lower has to be one of the most fugly lowers I've ever seen. You can do much better for much less money.

Hey guys. I want to get started building an AR-10 but don't know exactly where to begin (aside from a parts store). I know that I want it to be piston driven, and built for mid to long range (300-800 meters). Currently, I own an AR-15 but that's more my CQB/mid range weapon. Could anyone point me in the right direction? Looking for literature, and part sources at this point.

Having owned both platforms by many manufacturers over the years my knee-jerk reaction is to tell you not to. If you insist make sure you get a platform that accepts Magpul 30cal mags. I cannnot stress this enough as I had an DPMS in the safe for years when they first came out because the factory mags would need feed consistently at all. Went through dozens. Little birdie at Magpul told me they were coming out so I decided to keep it in the safe until they did. Had I known it was going to be years I would've sold it. I eventually sold all of my AR10/LR308 platforms because they're heavy, parts are proprietary and they're expensive to feed mediocre performance ammo to. If your goal is 600-800m you can do this w/the AR15 platform reliably. Hell, even a SBR will nearly reach out that far consistently in the right hands.

If I was going to buy that platform today about the closest to what I would want would be a DPMS GII but with a .260REM or 6.5Creedmoor barrel on it. I'd have to change out a lot of pieces to make it what I want but that's probably more along the lines of what I want. BCM is supposedly coming out with something similar but as of now it's vaporware.

The real question is, what are you planning to shoot? If you're just paper punching build an SPR/Recon/RECCE for cheaper. Pretty much me and all my buddies who had an AR10/LR308 platform realized most of what we wanted to do could be done with this platform for a lot less money. Whatever it can't do a 30cal bolt gun can do it better.

If you just want one because it looks cool then a POF will fit your bill and run you about $2500ish give or take depending on which model or options you want.

Correct on the hollow point part. You want penetration for bears.
