I'd totally watch the guy do it, I probably wouldn't egg him on though but I doubt I'd say "don't do it, idiot!"

Makes my back hurt watching that video though. I am curious how the following insurance thing went down.

Oh, your on your own I would imagine. I suspect this guy even had to fabricate a story for his ins. company to consider covering that act of "Hold my beer..."

If not insurance, he had to come up with a story for SOMEONE.

Could you imagine buying that truck and then having a bachelor weekend at the dunes with some bros, then completely destroying it and having to own that to your wife? How the hell would you explain "Well I went off a little jump and it wasn't as small as it looked, truck is totalled."

Then she see's the video of him romping the shit out of it.

    Instadivorce. :D

Doesn't the raptor have like a 1000 pound payload capacity or something?

I'm glad you like your STX. I would never spend money on a base model 1/2 ton to try to make it into a toy. You're not only losing the depreciation and resale value, but you're also throwing away your mod money trying to make a 1/2 ton into something it's not. If you wanted function over form, keep your STX stock and go find some beater 1/4 ton or jeep to turn into a beast. By the time you have the suspension travel and stance of a Raptor, how much money have you wasted? What kind of long travel did you put on a half ton for 6K? Not a very good kit I'm guessing. That's my opinion. Go have fun with your truck.

Yup, it's just over 1000 pounds. Still enough to carry a spare driveshaft, tool box, or whatever you need into the field. The towing capacity is still 8000 lbs, and trust me it has no problem handling weight. You see a lot of them working in the oil patch and on farm with no issues.

Just bought a '15 less than 2 weeks ago. At the end of this week I will easily surpass the cost of a new Raptor...easily. Function only as the goal.

No shit, 1000 lb payload? Is this because the suspension setup is soft?

Probably because any more weight would push the shocks out of there load range enough to risk damage, etc. I've seen a toolbox loaded, a 30 lbs fire extinguisher, and a couple of steel odds and ends in the back of a Raptor and it wasn't bro leaning.

That's crazy. Still perform truck functions but sounds like if you want a serious truck for $60k you're still better off with a Super Doodie.

True dat. For guys who don't need excessive payload the Raptor works great. If you're going to push 10,000 pounds towing or you're going to have a welder on it you're better off to buy a 3/4 ton doodie.

My line of excessive payload is a little higher than 1000 lbs, but yeah. :D

Fun to drive in certain conditions but it's a sport truck at heart, not a worker (though it's still a truck).

Actually the one nice thing about the Raptor is how it holds up. Trucks like the Tacoma tend to break in the oil patch or on farm when they're constantly loaded with 500 lbs then unloaded while being driven over extremely suspect roads. The Raptor is light enough not to sink in mud in a field or job site but strong enough to take the beating. Hence it's been a good but expensive fit for some guys.

BTW The guys who bought Raptors likely would of bought 3/4 loaded up diesels instead if they didn't need the flotation, hence they're actually saving a bit of money rather than spending it.

Raptor dosnt have long travel. Longer arms just make it wider to fill in the fenders and match the wider rear axle. All of which is swappable with any stock f150

Huh, you're right. It only travels 11.2" up front. For some reason I thought it was way farther than that. In any case I've stated my opinion. Good luck and have fun with your STX on the trails. Not that the Raptor would do much better on a Jeep trail :).

If I might ask was it just for financial reasons you didn't go with the FX4? I almost bought one instead of my Tacoma because the options package on the FX4 is an amazing value IMHO after you include some dealer discounting. Especially if you're going to head off road (rear locker, camera's, etc.)

Fx4 was cheaper than some tacos.. and it is fully loaded. Sticker price was sky high but who the hell pays that anyway :bananadance:
