I've had my Ariens 724 for 8 Winters now, this will be the 9th. It has served me well and expect many years of service to come.

I'm a big fan of two sets mounted, but storage can be a pain. I am also a big fan of the studless Winter tires, Blizzaks specifically. Ran studded Nokians and Hankooks our first 8 yrs up here. This will be our 5th Winter on Blizzaks and I wouldn't go back to studded tires for anything.

I agree, this Ebola stuff is serious; saying it doesn't concern me would be a lie. But not gonna panic yet.

There, you brought me out of my "snow is coming" denial. ;)

Just seems like it has been a cluster F**K at every level with the government no matter which agency is doing the talking. The hospital in Dallas will never recover from the lawsuits of the patient or the nurses and the lawsuits have not even started yet.

On a positive note I installed two 4 ft florescent bulb fixtures in my nephews garage today. Total of six 32watt T-8 bulbs. Going to install a new circuit with 2 outlets on Saturday. I should have had this completed over the summer.

    Evening all:
Yes; Ebola is serious stuff. I can't believe the way they have been handling it so far. Seems like a lot of mistakes are being made that should have been avoided. :notsure:
The first guy intentionally lied on a form, and a nurse that should know better got on a flight with a fever after working around the virus. STUPID PEOPLE are causing most of the problem.

Morning Ken, morning Rob.
Thanks. MTD reputation has gone in the toilet over the past few years unfortunately. Ariens and Honda are the two at the top of my list. Cub Cadet and even Deere are still on my list too, just want to stay away from their big box versions. Honda is still pricy, but still has a solid rep for quality and longevity. Ariens has been holding pretty strong too. I want tracks so that limits my options somewhat.
That's pretty interesting to hear. I would have thought that studs would be the way to go when driving on roads that are constantly ice- or snow-covered. I'm a big fan of Blizzaks too, been using them for years as well. The last set I got for the Subie were Pirellis and they're just as good, so I might be easing up in that regard. The used Taco set I'm looking at are Firestones.
Happy to be of service. :poking:
Amen to the stupid people. Official BS in response to the stupidity just compounds the problem. Maybe I'm nuts but I'd lock that Dallas hospital down tight and wait 21 days before letting a single soul out. Work out from there.

I'm in south central AK and commute from Palmer to Anchorage (Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson). They do a good job plowing here and it's generally not frigid cold snowbound like the interior. IMHO studded tires are worse than studless on plowed yet still slick roads ... the studs need something to bite into ... slight advantage at stoplight intersections in town where the glaciation (word?) builds up from idling vehicles. Also no tax on studless and you can put them on when you want and take them off when you want; we have specific dates for studded tires and having them on outside those dates will result in a citation and fine. I honestly expect studs will be prohibited in some areas before too long. They tear up the roads and honestly, the technology is there in the studless and they have become just about as affordable. My opinion anyway.

    And Good Morning Sir.

Back in the days of rational thought and "to hell with your feelings if you don't like it", that's exactly what would have been done ... I think.

Sadly those days are history ... you folks here know that better than I, I am sure. :(

X2 on that. Tonight's trap shooting night, could be chilly out there.

That's for sure, but no, we have to wait until it's unstoppable.

All they had to do was to stop flights or anyone for Africa from entering the country. But, we have to have open borders.
Some believe obummer wants a crisis so they can call off the election...we'll see.

    Afternoon all:
Reading the thoughts on Ebola, and agree this could have been handled much better.
They knew it would be here eventually and is deadly. Why didn't they set up a special facility away from the general public, have specially trained volunteer personnel there that are paid a premium salary, and no one who enters it is allowed to leave that facility until after a quarantine period.
Maby that's too simple for them to figure out, and may not solve the problem, but it would have stopped some of the BS that's been going on.
Maby they should set up a facility in Washington DC! ;)

There are 3 or 4 such facilities in the US that are treating ebola patients right now. The difference is that they knew those people had the virus before they got here, transported them appropriately, and took them to the right kind of facility. The Dallas thing is a whole other kettle of fish.

Agreed. I originally got winter tires when my AWD Subie wouldn't stop or turn in the snow on (crappy OEM) all season tires. My light-bulb moment came one rainy day as my wife and I were driving home from the airport. It was cold, near freezing; we went across an overpass and I was pretty sure it was icing over. I told my wife so, and at almost the same instant we watched the cars just ahead of us start to spin around out of control on the next overpass. Everyone was doing 65+ of course, so no chance to stop before we got there. The Blizzaks paid for themselves on the spot; I simply drove around the spinning and spun-out cars and made my way safely across the icy surface. No drama whatsoever. We were awed by the performance of the tires in that situation.

Dang, now I'm talking myself into getting a set. :p

Pay backs are a bitch, you started this snow talk nonsense. :p

Seriously, I recommend them over studded to anyone who asks up here. One of my buddies at work accuses me of getting kick backs from Bridgestone or something. A lot more makers are carrying them now too; friends are getting good performance from Michelin X-ices. Tire Rack.com has some good test result based information.

Doing well Rob, Thanks. Keeping busy and attempting to stay out of trouble:D

Hey Jim, 57* is still shorts weather up here:D...

Hi wdb, haven't had snow tires for many years and really haven't had a need for them. Have Firestone A/T tires on the Tacoma and with the snow I encounter here I don't have any problems. Also knowing how to handle your vehicle in the snow helps:thumbsup:. See too many people (esp. with AWD) speeding in bad weather and ending up like the vehicles in your bridge incident:eek:...they think because it can go it will also stop:(.
