So, I need some advice for a friend. She is thinking of getting a quad for her 11 year old son, who is about 4 feet tall.

What kind do you recommend..and where is a reputable place on the South Shore to get one?

Have her go to a powersports dealer with her son and have them size him to an appropriate quad, then take that info and hit craigslist to try and find one

My sense is she's looking new, just because she doesn't want to have repair issues if she can help it or get ripped off by someone selling junk.

Just so that you know there is a minimum age for riding ATV's of 16 years old. So if your friend brings her kid go with her to any store they can not sell her a quad if they know its for a 11 year old.

With that said IDK about all the current models but look for something like a 90 or 125 4 stroke. A 11 yo kid should be able to handle that fine but still have plenty of power for them to have fun.

    Morning, folkses!
    Happy Thirsty Thursday!
    :drunk:

On an unrelated note, I get to get greasy this weekend. I got the rest of my plow truck parts in the mail this week, so on Saturday I'm going to tear into the Dodge.
Of course, my mother wants to bring my grandparents down on Saturday afternoon because they haven't seen my new house yet (the one I bought two years ago ), so that'll put me on sort of a time crunch. Shrug. I've always got Sunday to finish it.

Nanny state at it's finest

There's more to that regulation, at least how I understand them. I looked into them when Joseph was born because I want to get an ATV (nothing like planning ahead). What I found was minimum age for an ATV was 12 but they're limited to 90cc or under. Minimum age for anything over 90cc is 16. There are loop holes with 'special events' and I read something about the minimum age being 10 if supervised by the guardian and on their own land.

Chris, I would have your friend find someone who is knowledgable about powersports and hit Craigslist. The small ATVs are usually outgrown quickly and sometimes parents buy them for their kids, thinking they'd be a great idea and they never get driven. You can save a ton of money and get an almost new ATV on Craigslist.

The laws are feds not state. I was looking both in Mass and RI and they all had that printed in the plastics right on the fender along with the dont ride double. You are probably right about the size/age thing though. I was only looking at quads over 90cc's.

    Goddamn Craigslist people.

"What's the best price you're willing to do today or tomorrow?"

My response: "Well, I'm asking $150. Make me an offer"

    Haven't heard anything back since.
Frigging people. Man up and make an offer. I'm not going to talk myself down. If I like your offer I'll take it, if I don't the worst I'll do is say no and counter it with something else.

Getting rid of a snowblower. I used it for the walkways at the old house (they were paved).
The new house has a gravel driveway, and I have a tractor and a plow truck, so I haven't used the blower since we moved.

I'll counter your offer with an offer of $149. And I'll happily 'deliver' it to the end of my driveway for you at no charge.

$150 for a snow blower isn't bad. That reminds me, I need to get mine up and running!

It's an older Simplicity 5 horse w/electric start. Starts super easy even with the pullcord, runs and throws snow well, but it revs higher than it should when there's no load on it. I just throttled it back whenever I wasn't actually blowing snow with it, and it worked fine. Probably needs a carb rebuild/replacement because it acts like it's just getting too much fuel.
I don't care enough to fix it because I don't use the damn thing, so I'm selling it for fairly cheap to get it out of the garage.
