So my truck is pretty complete as of now only thing it may need is a custom box for my sub and sound deadener...

Looking for tips and advice to get louder with current setup

Won spl contest 2 weeks ago hitting 145.6 db's

So what's everyone got and how can I get louder? How much can I gain from adding dynamat? Custom box?

I want to hit in the 150's

    nice work.

was that box tuned specifically for the fi SSD? if not, you could definitely get more with a properly built box.

sound deadening and reinforcing will help you gain some db's. the reflecting wave can cause phase cancellations resulting in perceived lower output.

The box is tuned at 45hz sub rf is 31hz website now says to tune to 33 hz but will it really hit louder at a lower frequency? I mean cabin frequency plays a huge roll in getting big numbers on the spl meter? Which is yet to be discovered

my truck did 156.6, had a 160 in it. This was sealed up db drag TL meter.
Previous set up was 149.x 2 15s and 6kw DB drag NW class

Im sure i can find the vid of my 156.6 burp when u blew a hole in my window and cracked it all to bits

Ill put money on that your truck resonant freq is between 50 and 60hz
Build a custom box and swap for a single flared port that u can change the length on.
Tune 30hz for daily driving and have another for your peak freq

That's a quite the thought there... I suppose I could try to build one but I know it will look better if I purchase it... Lol I've chatted with Dave the box guy a few times... Having an octoport box with interchangeable ports would be fucking sick... As long as the octoport will have the same effect on my ten it has on larger subs... What ya think?

I want an external port gives a guy a chubby ya kno lol there just impressive

What's the best way to find my resonant freq?

Couldn't I just get a cheapo spl monitor and use lower volume burps at different fz to find it... And how much of an affect will my 45hz box affect the outcome? Would it change with a different box?

Pretty sure my box is in its currently capable position... Rear passenger side subs firing up due to how deep the box is I had to tip it up to keep the front seat functional... And port is facing driver rear

Well the be honest, SPL is not an easy thing or everyone would be loud.

It takes hours and hours of testing and rebuilding to get the most of out your setup.
    Just as an example :
My front seat position changed my score by .4db, Flared port changed it by 1.1db ( same port area) then the resonant freq etc. People run freq sweeps to find the region of bandwidth their set up is the loudest. Then they narrow it down burp by burp. Changing ur box will change this, changing position will also change this, changing subs, amps, anything can change ur freq your loudest at. IM gonna go out on a limb and say 55Hz

Building our own box for your sub should be very easy. Start with 2cubic feet ported with 2 4 inch flared ports" aeroports ". For daily driving tuned lower just plug one port. you would need to find the proper port length of course. I would even suggest building a 4th order BP. Start with 1 cubic foot on the sealed side, 2 cubic foot on the ported side with port at 25% of ur cone area.

Then find some one with an Actual SPL meter- i.e term lab. No other meter really counts unless its accredited. Most other meters read about 5-9db louder.

Well I was driving my 500 mile trip from williston nd to Minnesota today and my orion xtr 2200d amp smoked on me... It's made the trip several times and has never gotten above like room temp warm... Running at 2ohm powering 2 mtx ts5512 22 subs rated for 500rms each... Amps at 1750 at 2 ohms so why did my amp blow?

Did I roast a sub solid creating resistance to the power supply frying my amp? That is the only explination I can think of... I had one of my spiders start breaking free when I initially installed the amp with these subs... I repaired it but since I poly filled it to act like a larger box( box sq footage is too small for the subs) I think it muffled the sound this time.... Gonna have to dig into it tomorrow after I unload all my golf shit

hard to say, would need to look at the subs and open the board, identify which section blew.
Many things can cause the power supply to pop. Subs that blow tend to cause a short and blowing the amp but thats easy to id.

Voltage drop n bad grounds tend to increase amps being popped but amps sometimes just pop. The better the quality and i don't mean JL audio or any of those main stream ones the lower chances of popping. Not a JL hater but JL is by no means the best to compare with.

Take subs out, take back plate off the amp, search for what is black and take pics

Post up some pictures of your current setup and I can provide more insight, but here are some suggestions that (theoretically) should get you to 150.

Adding one subwoofer should give you a 3db gain. Upon doing this, I would build a custom ported enclosure for the two woofers, built specifically to the manufacturers enclosure specifications.

Dynamat will help keep sound in the truck, but I'm not sure what kind of gain you will get from that, specifically.

Place your woofers so that they are playing directly into a surface that the sound will reflect off of.

So far, you seem to be off to a good start! 145 is damn impressive from a single 10" woofer!

I'm pretty set on keeping this truck with a single 10... Sub currently is pointed at roof and then the port Is facing drivers side
