Yeah that thing was flopping around pretty good, can't imagine what would have happened if you winched with it

/\/\/\/\ this. The factory mounting points on the frame horns are only about 14 guage at best. Even with those "bumper reinforcement plates" that most vendors sell I still managed to break mine. If you plan on winching (well none of us plan for it, but shit happens ;)), reinforcing those points is a good idea while the bumper is off.

    Wish I knew how to weld… :(

I'm thinking I may be able to show my local 4x4 shop your pictures and see if they could do something similar.

You too Steve! Wish I would've taken more pictures of your truck for you, glad you snagged the one I got of you on Corum though.

Hope to wheel with you again in the future!

Aluminum may be a little weaker in some areas, but I believe it should handle the stuff that I will throw at it. I have read up on them and it seems like they may gouge a little easier, and may bend a little easier if I run into rocks with the wings. It should be just as strong as my DO steel though with better mounting points. plus the BAMF frame brackets I have.

But, as they say, it pays to play, and if I damage something wheeling, then at least it was for a fun cause. No reason spending all this money if I'm not gonna wheel it.

At this point in my build, I would rather sacrifice a little strength for weight savings. 99.99999% of my driving is on the road, and I would like to start focusing on weight savings and making this thing a little more comfortable for daily driving.

I think it will be ok for my use:

This was sort of an unexpected purchase, at least as far as the timeline of when I was going to buy it, but as you can see from my future plans list in my OP, there aren't any mods above $100 or $200 in the foreseeable future...

Yeah once my stupid photobucket resets I'll post some pics. I'm sure they could do something similar. Heck I did mine using just a chop saw and a drill press so I'm sure a more equipped shop should have no troubles.

Ticked over 30,000 miles today. Also swapped out the orange Homer Depot ratchet straps on the roof rack for some black US Cargo Control straps to better blend in.

Now just waiting on my Pelfrey. :pccoffee:

    :)

30 miles round trip to school Monday-Thursday, 10 miles roundtrip to one fire department Tuesday and Friday's, then 30 miles round trip to my other fire department on Wednesday's and often other days eats up the miles...

Can anyone think of why my rear shocks would squeak? Small dirt particles went into the shaft cylinder or something?

I keep hearing squeaking and creaking from the rear suspension, and I tried to get underneath the truck while pulling the bed down and cycling the suspension, and I think I narrowed it down to the shock. I don't think it's my leaf packs, which is what I first suspected.

Any ideas on how to stop it squeaking? I was thinking maybe droop the rear out so the shocks are fully extended and see if the shaft is clean?

it could definitely be the leaf springs. maybe try spraying some lube in between the leaves? ryanjboutin did that. I think my cousin had some squeaks and he ended up painting them

Flex the truck out and get a popsicle stick, smear some multi purpose grease where the contact patches on the leaf springs are/were and the squeak should go away.

I don't figure its your shocks but who knows

Expos will squeak to no end. They will be rusty within a month. Theres no real cure. Just keep them painted with rustoleum and maybe a little grease in between the leafs.
