Rears are easy but the coilovers aren't much fun because of the spring. Kind of depends on your previous mechanical knowledge. If you're going to try and tackle it, do all the research you can and watch some videos.

 

This is a real good one, though it does leave out setting the IFP.

I worked as a mechanic for 6 years and work on my dad's triaxle dump truck since I was old enough to be of any assistance! Plus, my uncle works on water pumps (big tow behind pickup size ones) and he already said he's sure he can do it. He rebuilt a cylinder on our backhoe last year. It seems fairly straight forward. But like you said, I can see the springs being a pain in the arse

I found King rebuild instructions which say.

"Step 17: Set the Reservoir IFP
Charge the reservoir with a small amount of pressure to push the internal floating piston to the bottom of the reservoir cylinder.
Then, release the pressure from the reservoir so that it is empty."

Is it harder than that?

 

Nope.

 

I think my only problem is where to get the shocks pressurized

 

Yeah it helps to own your own bottle of nitrogen.

Yea Nick you'll be fine then. And setting the IFP is how you described Chris. Make sure you get all the bubbles out before you put the piston back in!!

great stuff here man, how hard was shock rebuild? I'm due for a rebuild and I need to put the extended travel spacer in myself haha

 

Do it! Like I've told others, as long as you research and take your time the only pain in the ass is getting the coils on and off... Extended is the way to go pm me if you've got questions.

 

Picked up my 15 DCSB 6-speed sport the other day! Loving the transmission! It's definitely a truck though lol I'm going to switch the trans fluid to Redline MT90 at the first oil change and get a hurst shifter too. Should make everything really nice!

 

Nice! Mt90 is great in the 6 speed. And the Hurst is awesome

 

That's why I'm going with those choices! You and Matt's reviews of those products were enough to influence me!

 

Hey Marc, when you were using the ratchet straps to remove your coils did you tie the straps together and skip using the hooks? I tried to do it last night but couldn't get the hooks between the coil and shock body. I need to crank up my driver's side before I get an alignment and don't have a spring compressor.
