Just back from Tire Rack where purchased and installed a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks. 265 70 R16s...

They did a great job mounting, balancing (no weights on outside of rim), using correct psi, and even torqued them to spec.

When I left, we had a huge downpour and I can tell you these tires are sticky! Going through deep puddles there was no hydro-planing.

    I can't wait for snow!

Anyone else use Blizzaks and what do you think? (Besides the crappy tread life, because they're so sticky...)

You're gonna chew up and wear down those tires quick unless it starts getting really cold and snowing by you soon.

some of this, a little of that
I have run them on my wife's cars for years, they're a great tire. I usually hold off until at the earliest November before putting them on, at least for around here.

I have used Blizzaks as my winter tires on all my vehicles for at least 10 years now. They area very good snow tire and an exceptional ice tire, which is very important where I drive. I always wait until the last minute to install them and get them off as early as possible in the spring. At temps above about 10C / 50F they wear fast! I get 3 seasons - about 60,000kms out of them.

Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
I've used Blizzaks for years, but I currently have Michelin X-ice tires on the Honda due to a tire slashing incident.

I have sold hundreds of sets of Blizzaks and not one complaint.

Now I sell Nokians like crazy. Easily the best winter tire ever made. Hakka 8's with studs... Insane traction in snow/ice

I've got 40k (5 seasons) on my set of Hankook Winter Ipike's (mounted on the Subaru) and will definitely run them again this winter. I live in an area where >50% of my 25 mile commute is snow & ice.

The taco sits in the winter.....too afraid the saline they spray on the road will....well.......make me hate being a toyota owner (The suby has 16 years of salt on her frame and not a speck of rust).

I'm getting mine! Actually bought the day before this promo started, then got the email from Tire Rack. I called cust svc, they worked with me and Bridgestone. Bottom line: I'm getting the Winter Utility Kit and am entered in the "Guess the Temp" contest which will cover the cost of the Blizzaks, if I win!!

My hat is off to Tire Rack. Outstanding service.

I am one happy camper and can't wait for snow!

This will be my 5th Winter on Blizzaks. Ran Nokian and Hankook studded for 8 yrs up here before switching to Blizzaks. I wouldn't go back to studded tires for anything. Initially I wondered how long they'd last. Thought last Winter was going to be the last for the set on my truck, but when I pulled them off, the tread indicators show I should get this one more season out of them. When I put them on I said I'd be happy with 3 seasons. Actually think they last longer than studded tires, because I recall having studded tires restudded or pulling the studs and running for summer tires after 3 seasons.

It's a fact you don't want to run them in warm (50F+ is probably a good mark) because they will wear extremely fast in those temps. I have a friend who tried to run them through Summer, one mid 70's day with direct sun on asphalt driveway he literally left rubber streak marks when he moved the car in the driveway. Tread was melting on hot pavement. But at -20F they will still feel spongy. Amazing technology.

Hey SMS...noticed you're up in ZIGZAG, great area, been running up in those hills forever. Here in Porkland, we use magnesium choloride for roads (they are testing salt on two roads, see link)....put on only before a snow/ice storm which is rare in here (once a year for a day or two???)...

Wan't sure what they used up near Mt. Hood...

    From ODOT: https://www.tripcheck.com/Pages/winter-road-maintenance.asp
Interesting read on what it is, what it does, how to treat it.

    Magnesium chloride:
    • Contains a corrosion inhibitor to reduce impacts to vehicles.
    • Works well at cold temperatures.
    • Fairly inexpensive.
Now that I hijacked the thread...tagged because I need some winter tires...

    Congrats OP :woot:
Tire Rack is great for sure.
I run Blizzaks also here in VT though my winter wheel/tire set is hibernating until colder temps or a snow event.
Having em on wheels ready to go makes the swap over quick.

Great tire in snow & ice!!!! But I would never have them mounted so early!! That soft rubber layer wears quick on dry pavement!!!!

Keep trying TW or Craigslist. They show up fairly regularly from people upgrading.

There's a set now on Craigslist:

    http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/pts/4704405234.html

I chose not to have TPMS for the 3 months I run the snow tires, because of the TPMS programming hassles when switching tires.

Ditto ... picked mine up off craigslist for $200 (all four); and I don't worry with the TPMS for the 6 months I generally have my Winter set on ... I just call the little light my "good traction indicator." ;)
