Hey all. I have a 2007 Tacoma. When I hit the gas to go over 20 miles an hour it will make a really horrible noise. I don't really know how to explain it. It's sounds like vibrating, but I am not 100% sure. The truck does not lose any power. It runs the same as before. Just need to figure out what it is and how to fix it. Should I be worried about driving it? If this helps a few weeks ago a clamp fell off which was I think near the heat shield. Could that have anything to do with it?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
The top heat shield is probably sitting on the cat converter or bent and touching the driveshaft. Get under there and remove it.

Since you mention the heat shield, take a good look underneath around the drive shaft, the cats and the mufflers. Look at the heat shields and check to see if something is loose, damaged, rubbing etc.

Didn't want to start a new thread because I have an issue that is similar. For me, the noise I hear is never consistent, meaning it doesn't happen every time I hit the gas, maybe half the time it does it and it only really does it when I'm accelerating. Once at speed it really doesn't make the sound. But the sound I hear is more like a gargling sound. Almost like how the old diesel engines sounded. I took it to the dealer a month ago before a long road trip and they hooked it up to their computers and said everything checked out and no problems. Well the noise still happens and it wasn't like that when I bought it so something is going on.

Figured I get on here and find out if any others are having this similar problem so I could let the techs at the dealership know.

    Thanks for any help

My truck is a 2012 Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 SR5

Did you try higher grade gas and switch gas stations?? Might be pre ignition knock/pinging ??

Does it happen under light to moderate acceleration around 25-35 mph when it's warm outside?

I don't know if this helps, but...

Not sure if it's a ping or not but it seems like, from reading that post, that the ping is something you really have to listen for carefully, meaning it's not overly loud.

The sound I hear is extremely loud. You can hear it with the radio turned on easily.

I've used both types of gas and doesn't seem to be any different.

When I go to dealer next week, I told them I want a tech to ride around with me so they can hear it.

Ya, I wasn't sure. I had the noise that TSB talks about and it was pretty loud, but you couldn't hear it over the radio. Still, thought I'd mention it.

G'luck. I know it is/was pretty disappointing to hear my new engine/truck making weird noises. I'm just glad they were able to fix it.

Just got back from the dealer. Drove around for an hour, everything sounds fantastic. Did not notice any lack of power. Noise is completely gone.

    Thanks for the help.
