Just got my truck about 3 weeks ago 2014 TRD Sport. Tailgate happened to be down when I got rear ended and the person that did it ran off. Tailgate is crunched and my rear bumper is damaged the gap between the bed and the cab is different. Any advice? New member. Thanks.

I don't know if the hitch would have helped any some old ford hit me.

I had a kayak in the back and was at a stop when it all happened.

A trip to the body shop I would assume, their insurance or yours. I've been rear ended 2x in 6yrs, neither time as bad as yours. The first one looked VERY minor and if the truck had had more than the 3k miles on it, prob wouldn't have gone in. The damage was still $1500. My second pop was into my trailer hitch and bumper, $2500 damage and nothing to the bed cept tint and blend the back end of the fenders as the bumper caused minor contact but scratches again down to metal.
I have the orig factory receiver and chrome bumper. Cheap. Shipping would be a bear though.. Good luck

Yeah since it was a hit and run I think my insurance is going to have to cover it. Hoping the frame isn't bent. Thanks

It was a hit and run probably will never know who did it. Kayak made it surprisingly. Just hoping the frame isn't bent.

Just thinking from description of damage the bed probably shifted on bolts a bit to give you uneven space bed to cab. Happens a lot on pick ups some even flex into cab causing damage without frame damage.

Yeah and I almost did. I was on the line with the operator and they told me i would have to go to the police station to get the police report if I left the crime scene. Whoever it was they had no intent of stopping. Most likely no Insurance and were probably under the influence of something.

My buddy and i hot clipped at a gas station. The guys took off. We followed. After about a mile or so, they crashed. All while i was on the phone with the police. Never got a ticket for leaving the scene.

Best you didn't. Even though the coursing testosterone pushes some of us, had they injured or killed another driver recklessly running from you it would be much to live with. Good choice.
15 years ago I did this after my rear glass was bashed in by some gang bangers looking to steal contents. 5 miles into the chase in only boxers and a Glock in my lap I stopped in my tracks as clear conscious thought entered and turned around.
