Side Rail Cap System by KB Voodoo - NOW MADE FROM ALUMINUM

I know the tailgate cap I bought from you (which is amazing and everyone that looks at my trucks notices it and comments on it) is a 14 gage steel. I say make the side rail cap system the same 14 gage steel. That's my vote.

 

Wait... Upon further inspection of your designs, doesn't it already have a bend on the inside, where it attaches to the bed/utility rail? Isn't that strength enough to match the cap?

 

The tailgate cap has two bends on top, where as the side rail cap will only have one.

It needs to be 11 gauge.

 

Wasn't impying anything about the gauge. I just wanted to clarify whether that bend strengthened it or not because my previous post was made under the assumption of no bends.

 

Keeping an eye on this! Based on results with a tonneau cover, I would be game! Would be nice to have side rails that match the tailgate cap.

 

Thinking out loud here. What if the rail was an 0.5" or 1" wider with the added width rolled under? This would create a bend and the edges would be doubled up. Exceeding the bend radius can result in stress risers and metal tearout.

It has been quite a while since I worked with steel. Would need to defer to your expertise.

 

So it's just flat on top. Are you planning on rounding the corners like stock?

 

Will a ARE CX series topper fit with your bed rails and tailgate? I want something to protect the paint while the topper is on. Heard lots of stories of paint rubbing off to bear metal. Thanks!

I just finally read through most of the thread. Believe me, The stuff Chad makes is top notch. If you pass on this just because he is going to put a couple of useful holes in the top you will be the one missing out. I understand your desire for something specific but you have to consider the amount of time and demand for something like this. To "one off" something for just one or two people is not usually cost / time effective.


That said.... I'd like to have a couple of unicorns placed directly in the center of mine please.

Now that makes sense to me, and likely would have made the difference in my decision to pass on Chad's rails. I Know I will lose out on the tailgate rail, as I don't think there is a better tailgate rail product and had fully intended to buy it, but hear my reason to back off: I don't like to be talked down to. Chad's trust me, you'll like it better attitude just doesn't cut it for me. I'm too old and crusty to take that kind of crap. A reasonable explanation as you offer is acceptable, Chad's responses were not.

All I'm trying to do is make a product that works. I can't incorporate input from everybody, sometimes I have to use my experience and know-how to pick a direction and go for it.

If my products don't work for you, you're free to not buy it.
