I think it has more air in the bellows than in the diff. And it's bellows. They expand and contract. I really don't think the air in the diff expands that much.

Actually the air in the diff expands by a lot, since the gear oil can heat up to 200F. If the outside environment is at 0F, then the amount of air expansion in the diff can be as much as (660/460 rankine)-1 = 43%. I used to be a proponent of the creeper breather until I did this rough calculation.

This has been discussed before, several reports of seal leaks as a result of using the creeper breather: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/220753-submerged-differential.html#post5115670

How much air do you think is in the diff? It's mostly gears and oil. And it doesn't get that cold in Hawaii anyway. Thanks for the link tho.

Finally finished my BHLM! For a first time, I would have to say I did pretty good. Few mistakes here and there but overall came out pretty good! I now know what not to do next time.

The real test is will it hold up when it ever decides to rain in AZ

Looking at where the fill plug is, the air volume is about the same as the oil volume, which is 3.1 quarts. You think the creeper breather can hold 1.3 quart?
