I had an accident in a 2006 toyota tacoma automatic, my truck crashed through two fences, bounced down two driveways and came to rest when it shut itself off. It seems to be caused by a high idle to surge factor.
Brakes failed during this time period. I have had high idle situations in the past without the danger this situation posed. If you have experienced a similar experience in the same model truck please e-mail me at karen707@earthlink.net or chromemercedes@gmail.com

I learned in the 80s from Audis, first thing to do is go into neutral. Brake were likely overpowered by the engine being near w.o.t. Not sure whatever came of the Audi situation.

How about this:

Page: [1]
The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration has closed the books on its investigation into reports of unintended acceleration in 2005-08 Toyota Tacoma pickups. The federal agency says it couldn't find signs of a defect in the mid-size pickup.
NHTSA released a statement about its Tacoma investigation, saying, "For those vehicles where the throttle control system did not perform as the owner believes it should have, the information suggesting a possible defect related to motor vehicle safety is quite limited. Additional investigation is unlikely to result in a finding that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists."
The Tacoma uses a drive-by-wire throttle system that replaces a physical connection between the accelerator and throttle with an electronic connection. Toyota says its system was designed to report an error if the accelerator pedal and throttle are mismatched. No error codes have been found in Tacomas where the issue has been reported.

Maybe it will give you something fun to read thru.

Thanks for posting that. I was just about to do that.

I actually tested this theory by "faking" the throttle using my friend's scan tool. It does report an error if the throttle position and pedal position do not match.

Maybe you all will make a bunch of money off of Toyota and consequently be a determining factor when the price of Toyota's keep getting higher but our wages don't.

That's whats wrong with America: Sue happy yuppies.

We had a lady next door with a surge factor. While she was putting makeup on, she punched the gas instead of the brake... drove right into her family room

You mean brakes are for stopping the truck and not just good for flashing the red lights at people who are tailgating??

Now I feel like she is a lawyer, posing as a victim. I see people every day in cars and on bikes, no one wants to use that brake. At best it sounds like she missed the brake and hit the throttle.

My first response was to not judge but as i recall , the audis had no trouble either.
LIERS AND THE IRRESPONSIBLE ARE SETTING US UP FOR ANOTHER 911!! If you F$%# up, just fess up.
