I don't know who flopped after Icon or Fox, but I would ask them why. There are a few people on here that will give you some great mechanical reasons on each set up. Talk to Jason (05tacorunner) look at his rig. He has garage built his from the ground up. You've got Jake and Juan that can offer up some good knowledge. Shit just about everyone on here can chime in.

The reason I went with kings is because I bought used. Picked up my rear kings. Essentially new for 600 shipped. And then the fronts for 600 as well with coils and just rebuilt then so they are good to go. I payed around 1350 for them total after rebuild. That's the price of a set of coilovers. I just find deals. And they work for me well

I know a lot of people that have had constant problems with their Icons and for that reason I would never purchase new Icons. I prefer Kings, and that's why when I go LT I'll be buying new Kings.

That said I do currently have Icons in the rear, but for $350 I had Icon 2.5's with resi's.

From what I understand, the Icons have the most invested the Research and Development of the Tacoma platform and due to this sizable investment the Icon valving is, in the most broad spectrum best suited for Most standard applications in regards to transitioning from an excellent ride on the street to very good performance off road.

My query is rather, would the Kings set up be similar performing to the Icon in comparison from street to off road or are Kings 'Super Stars' off road with good/decent performance on road, meaning, sacrificing on road performance for off road performance ? At least in direct side by side operational comparison to Icon ?

I learned everything I know so far about trucks and suspension and how to do shit to my truck from this website. Lots of asking questions and reading (and not working while at work)

ICON has digressive rates which means as the shock speed increases when the shock cycles they get softer to a point. Fox and King have progressive rate so they do the opposite. As the shock speed increases the valving gets stiffer. The difference is control when going fast over certain terrain and preference of the driver.

I've learned most of this from Jason, he wouldn't want his ride to get softer the faster he goes on his LT and have it roll around and I wouldn't either. That would be scary when doing 60+ over whoops and taking turns at the speeds he is capable of.
Personally I like the softer ride as I go faster down washboard and rocky roads like CK or heading out to sheep's crossing. I won't go over 50 on sycamore and that's the lower side if it. The on road feel of the Icons are great also for my application.

    Apologies Gentlemen And Lady,

The usage application will be Mid Travel, the operational parameters will be 95% on road.

The 5% of the time when off road use is required there will be absolutely no slow rock crawling; but will be dirt roads in bad to very bad shape (think Sycamore), flat open desert and dunes (think Buttercup / Glamis) blasting through the desert at in town road speeds in one direction for 2 -3 hour stretches.

I need a strong, reliable suspension that is not going to make me feel wrecked. Basically I just need the vehicle to function and be reliable. When I'm in it the last thing that should be on my mind is am I going to malfunction. It just needs to work and get me where I need to go with out constant 'nickel and dime' maintenance or major repair.

Nah MT. I think it'll fit my needs and driving habits better than full long travel. I love the slow rock crawling like box canyon more than fast paced stuff. So LT for me would be worthless and sort of a waste of money. I won't use it for its intended purpose.

Icon MT suspension, Pelfreybuilt front bumper, Relentless skids, Avid sliders, Avid custom rack. Pelfreybilt HC Rear bumper.

Yup, I got my Icon Mid-Travel front and rear from DownSouth Motorsports (DSM) about a year ago. I went with Camburg UCAs and bought it all together. DSM explained the what and why and we figured the Icon setup would best suit my needs. I remember asking Donny there if I would be better suited with the King shocks (I love the blue color!) and he said, "I will sell you whatever you want Bill, but the Icon Stage 3 will do what you have told me you want to do and save you a bit of money!" I installed this myself with help of a buddy for the front. No regrets! Big improvement over stock and my truck had under 3k miles.

Then I added steel skids, plate bumpers at both ends, a winch, sliders and a bed rack from Avid and I need 700 lb front springs now. So keep your actual truck weight in mind if you replace springs.

Agreed. Just joking with ya. It seems everyone wanthe s siper charger Lt build. I just want mt aswell. But I do want a supercharger so I can get back to my stock speeds while loaded down. I am doing an expo build with my truck and a super mall crawler build to the wife's. But like you described mt will suit my needs just fine.

Yeah but it'll be awhile for me. My toytec lift is way more capable than I thought. So I'll stick with that for a bit haha going to box canyon really showed me the kind of truck I want to build!

And your truck is awesome now! But yes always try to remember what final truck wait will be
I have never ran box canyon. I just enjoy camping and doing it in places other people cant get too. And living out of my truck for a week if I want to. I have the toytec right now but it will be up graded someday. Im not as rich as john so I cant drop that kinda coin till he hires me in to his prostitution ring :p
