Im confused how the police said not their problem? It is 1,000.00 Right which is a felony. I can see it not being their jurisdiction but shouldn't they have put you in contact with his police? Who's problem is it when you go up and attempt to get your money back?

I would guess it's a hassle to track down cash.

Anyone can say they just lost $1k, so lack of evidence or something.

He should have texts showing the deal, the guys identification information via bank PM's from here. There is a cyber trail all over this.

Typically not stuff they get into. Unless it's blown out of proportion and garners attention through media.

What, does OP live in Mayberry? Almost all cities across the US of a decent size have a cyber crimes unit. Especially with the rise of cyber crimes in the last 10 years.

If that's the case then as soon as the op got confirmation that they weren't doing anything and the bank said no as well. Then he should have been on his way to the guys house. I guess this is more the case of does he really want his money back or not.

I understand trying to do the right thing and letting the police handle it. But if the police are truly saying not their problem. Then what else do you do? File a petition in small claims court. In what jurisdiction does that have to take place. The accused parties or the accusers? At one point do you have to say screw it.

OP you should have known better. You're old enough to know not to send someone that kind of money without an out. It sucks and I hope you get your money back but with as much that has went by at this point I am doubting it. Even in a court system all they can do is say you have to pay it or we'll garnish your wages. Which that in itself is another battle.

I read the original post again, and it appears this scammer lured the OP into a perfect scam. Direct wire transfers are the worst way to lose money, since banks don't care why the money is being transferred. (Well actually they do care if it's for an illegal or tax-avoiding reasons). Once the bank has verified you and the receiving account, they are out of the loop. They can provide a paper-trail of the transaction, but nothing to specify "why" the transaction occurred, other then you requested it. The problem is that your only evidence is a few electronic conversations regarding the sale. You have no invoice, receipt, or shipping evidence. If the scammer had given you a USPS number (even a bogus one), then you could file with the postmaster. If you had an invoice, then you could file with the court. Unfortunately, the scammer left you with nothing but a few emails and IMs. The lesson is that anytime you are asked to send money via wire transfer or as a paypal "gift", then you give up all right to seek a refund. Always proceed with extreme caution when asked for a non refundable money transfer.

At this point, a court case may be more money down the drain. If you do proceed, you will need to collect as much evidence as possible and try to get all your electronic evidence validated. Since the scammer is erasing his info here, I'm assuming he is already covering his tracks. Your best evidence will be text messages from his personal phone, and your phone company should be able to provide that info (assuming your were texting phone to phone). Cell texts are admissible in court. I'm hoping you were texting, not voice calling regarding the shipping info. If it was voice only, then it will be your word against his.

Remember: Any harassment activity could negate your legal right to pursue a refund. I know it's tempting to pay a personal visit, but that could turn against you. Try to get the money back legally first.

Try his local pd, go inside in person and ask to talk to someone, preferable a detective. If that doesn't workout try small claims. IF that's a no go. Have this thread deleted by a mod and go rearrange this fucks face, his house and whatever vehicle. I would have lost my shit already. I'd prolly be in jail for assault, but when I would go to court and I'd plead temporary insanity due to circumstances lol

I understand the bank has protocols and all but I'd empty out every account I have with them and take my money elsewhere.
