Ive always heard that referred to as a bar body, someone who just wants to look good out at bars. The new men's physique class has lots of guys with pencil like calves. Usually gets a big WTF.

I hit legs like daily wheather its oly lifts, squats, deads or lunges its always heavy low volume stuff like 5x5s at the most so i dont need much recovery plus with the pro mountain biking background my legs recover quick and can take alota shit lol. Dont waist my time on the leg press machines or ham curls and that gay shit. MOVE HEAVY WEIGHT! #goheavyorgofuckyourself

    lol

We utilize the leg press machine but its to do side leg presses, which builds the outside sweep of the quads. I love cycling, both road and mountain. The wife does ultracycling, cyclocross, MTB and road.

MTB chicks have fucking great quads and calves.

I get both. I've always read maximum leg hypertrophy comes from higher reps (12-20), so I try to do that once a week for growth. I still like going heavy (4-10 reps) for strength gains though

you perfectly described 95% of people at my gym. All of my "bro" friends are jacked up top, but can't squat 135 10 times...I told a story on here a few weeks back about this old school dude calling out all the bros one day. They seriously do chest and arms 4-5 days a week and that's it. It's bad when someone can bench 405, but can't deadlift 225

I wish I could, but 2 leg days a week is about max for me. I value my recovery time too much. I could see doing abs, arms, shoulders, and calves three times a week, but I don't recover fast enough from legs, back, and chest to do them more than twice a week. This may piss people off, but if you can do legs on Monday and again on Wednesday, you're Monday workout was probably shitty. My leg days are usually Wed and Sat b/c recovery takes at least 2 whole days

yeah you're right....recovery is soooo overrated. Hell, I might just start doing a full-body workout 7 days a week

4 times a week is what we shoot for but that is dividing legs up, quads/calves one day and hamstrings/glutes on another.

Recovery is EXTREMELY important. As a matter of fact, a few times a year you should give your body a week of rest. Typically you come back stronger with noticeable gains.

Aaaah, that makes more sense. I couldn't imagine hitting quads and hams 4 times a week! I usually take a week off at least 2-3 times a year, due to being sick, vacation, etc. and I do usually come back more enthusiastic and energized. It's definitely good to take time off, just not too much! I also deload about every 8 weeks where I do light weight, high reps for a week (currently in the middle of mine right now)

Sitting in a machine and doing leg curls four times a week is far different than doing deads, squats or oly lifts four times a week. Everyone is different as well so some people may recover much faster/slower than others.

I do deads and squats every week, as well as machines. But, if the average person goes as hard as possible on legday, the chances they'll be able to do a solid workout in two days is slim....that's why I say most people slack. When I get out of the leg extension/curl machine, squat rack, etc., I am crawling because I go until my legs can't do another rep.

And as far as people having different recovery times, I'd refer you to my previous post to Nat:

Sure, there are genetic freaks and people on supplements that let them hit legs hard everyday, but if you come do legs with me, you'll fall on your face getting off the toilet the next day :D

When I do legs I always feel like that... Can't sit to shit, can't walk up and down stairs, can't get in and out of the car... But if I warm up I can do it again... In pain haha I do so much more than just hit the gym so I never rest.

I'm never sore unless i take a week off then come back or something. i recover faster than shit, i consider myself genetically lucky lol...i workout 2-3 times a day 6 times a week and never am sore and am always hitting PRs but i also spend at least an hour per day stretching and doing soft tissue work too. i sleep pretty well and eat good so that probably helps contribute to it also.

i used to scarf 4500-5000 calories per day and couldn't gain weight. iv been doing like 2500 the last like 4 months and haven't lost a pound so i guess my body wants to stay at 180 lol as long as I'm getting stronger i could care less about my weight

My hat's off to you, sir. But for gains, one needs to rest those puppies for a few days to let the muscle fibers re-heal. Giving muscle fibers 2-3 days to re-heal is what causes muscle growth.

Yeah, I hit every muscle group once a week and decided to try every muscle group twice a week, but made sure I'd have ample time for recovery. That's why my upper and lower days are as far apart in the week as possible. I had great gains hitting each muscle once a week but I'm having better gains on twice a week. As long as I recover in time, I'll continue hitting everything twice a week.
