For 30's I wouldn't worry about a heater. A mummy bag, nice socks and a beanie will be plenty warm.

How'd you get the pup in and out? I've got a big dog too, and always wondered. Sleep in the cab, or carry up the ladder?

 

Curious as well as i start looking but i know my boxer wont sleep without me

 

I carry my dog up the ladder. Usually have the gf in the tent already to help grab the dog.



And as far as heaters go... I have a small Coleman heater that screws onto a small propane bottle. I like it to take the edge off when it's cold. Only a few minutes makes a big difference. I really like it when it's raining and gets humid and damp in the tent. Few minutes with the heater and it's warm and dry.

 

Carrying the dog up the ladder isn't terrible but isn't all that great either. My dog was nice enough to sleep in and not want out constantly. It does get old and dogs are dirty. My pup loves to run in water and find mud puddles. When bringing them down I found it 20x easier to turn them around backwards so their head is facing the tent.

That wasn't a complete deal breaker for me but it sure was a PITA at times. I am happy to be moving to a floorless tent with the dog.

 

Cab. No way I'm carrying 100# of dog up or down that ladder.

 

Sitka just sleeps on the back seat but with out her harness being clipped into the seat belts. I crack all the windows about 1/2" & she's out like a light. Although she pretty much thinks of the 4R as her RV.

Thanks for all the dog responses! Mine has slept with me in the camper shell, but a few nights in the cab, cause she takes up so much room. I don't think she minds it in there. Glad to know other people do that too.

But those are pretty cool. I like how the 'propane' canisters become food and water dishes.

 

Do they make them in offroad version?
