I dunno. What do I care if it's an F650, Yugo or motorcycle? :notsure:

Edit: Oh, I think I'm mistaking what "splitting lanes" is. I'm under the impression it's when motorcycles ride on the dashed or solid lines, passing cars, in between the real lanes. If we're talking about two bikes sharing a lane side-by-side, then yeah I don't have a problem with that at all.

It is legal to split in CA.

No, lane splitting is what you originally thought, riding in between lanes of traffic.

Don't get me wrong, I don't ride in rush hour, so I don't make it a habit to split. Just way too dangerous and stressfull to ride in rush hour. Don't take offense, and I don't know if you ride on the street, but it is a difficult concept for people who don't ride to understand.

CA never ceases to amaze me.

So if I'm changing lanes and don't see a motorcycle rapidly approaching on the dashed line in between lanes... and I hit them, I'm at fault?

    Seems so illogical.

No offense taken. And no I don't ride a motorcycle (I've been on one three times in my life and been hit by a vehicle all three times... took it as a sign) but I am also a very aware and safe driver.

Just don't see how it benefits anyone to make splitting lanes legal.

Yea not sure who's fault it would be. Although legal to split in CA, bikes aren't supposed to fly down the middle. I once spoke with a CHP officer, and they mentioned it is a gray area, but safe practice is to not split if traffic is going more than 15 mph and even then bikes should not be splitting at more than 10 mph over the speed of traffic.

That I'll agree with. Even though still illegal in some states most think it's illegal everywhere when it isn't. Wasn't it legalized to prevent aircooled bikes from overheating and stalling out when in traffic? What bothers me is when traffic is moving at a slow pace and someone is doing 40+ in between vehicles. I'm always cautious from my dad riding and because I use to ride but there are times where I check my mirrors and do a visual look, turn the wheel with the blinker on, look again and nothing and then right when I start to hit the gas a biker fly's by

The way people drive here in the Denver/Boulder metro area... I would never spilt lanes on a bike.

Even in bumper to bumper traffic there are a lot of idiots always jockeying for position switching lanes back and forth.

Yea I would say if the traffic is stopped or moving very slowly it no big deal. Seems kinda stupid to do it at more than 45mph.

Dont be jealous if you wanna skip through traffic just buy a bike.

Idk if I'm the only one but I gas it by cars just to get out of their blind zone and from next to them, so that if the change lanes without looking cause they're texting/yelling at kids in back/getting road head, I dont get runover. You'd be suprised at some of the crappy drivers in cars and on bikes.
