    Excellent story so far! I read it last night, and then I had a dream where the same thing happened to me. Except for me it was my spindle that snapped in half and took out a bunch of shit, even my alternator haha idk how. But so weird that I had a dream that mimicked your story!

    You need to get your mom and bro to get their ham licenses, a good HT would have kept you guys in communication with each other... just saying.

    Also a nice APRS system would have allowed you guys to track them.

    Looking back we should have just given them one of our handhelds. At least we could have updated them on out situation. My dad has been trying to get my bro to get his ham license. I'm sure he will in the next year or so.

    We use dprs and it works awesome but even with aprs you need Internet to see and track.

    We ar putting a digital repeater up this next summer to help with that.
