Limited Service Campaign for Corrosive Resistant Compound

They gave me one and a half times book on my 2000 Tacoma with rusted out frame. I put it down on a 2008. I've sprayed my frame every year and it's in good shape - maybe I could have gotten a new frame if I didn't take care of it. The brother of a guy at work got a new frame so I know it's happening in NJ. I do all my own maintenance work so I don't know how the service department is. I'd do my home work B 4 I made a 12 hr trip - certainly call the service manager and tell him you bought it from them and see what he will do for you. I'll send you a PM on something not PC. Drove in the rain yesterday. Less than 24 hours after install. The coating washed off where the road spray hits the frame off the front tire and in front of both rear tires.

This stuff is a total waste of time. Not recommended unless you really plan on keeping it a long time.

I feel if the corrosion is started between sandwiched pieces of frame, this is not going to stop it. Merely cover it up.

There are pics of previous gen coated frames rusting through.

 

^^^ That's why they're supposed to keep the truck 3 days, and say don't wash the truck for 3 more days.

I wish the rain would have washed mine off the front suspension! There was no change at all.

 

Not gonna lie, I would be BEYOND upset if they did that to my truck. I would be asking them for a new front suspension or at least for them to try and get it off. They also should have a tar remover to get that stuff off of your wheels, I would bet there is over spray all over your paint too depending on what color your truck is.

 

I would bring the truck back to see if they would recoat the spots that wore away from driving in the rain. But I do know you shouldn't drive in the rain with ALL undercoatings for a couple days when it was just done.

 

They will redo those spots and keep the truck a few days. Just not sure it is worth all the hassle considering their spray gun emits a lot of extra mist.

I can get some undercoat and touch up those spots just fine. I am just glad it is off the paint.

Still very wet to touch and it was done Thursday. Today is Saturday.

I ran my vin on Toyota. Shows the springs, but not the rust recall.
Is this because this recall is not 'active' in PA yet?

Nothing in this area yet. Probably going to start gathering stock parts and dumping the truck one way or another next year. Between the dealer poor cs since I've owned it. Weak tailgate and all the other little things its time to part ways.

 

That is the best way to see all outstanding recalls on your particular vehicle.
I downloaded the Toyota app and signed up there the night I got my '08. I followed the link you provided and my sign in worked there too!

The only recall I'm waiting on is the leaf spring issue, and that's only because they haven't figured out what to do yet!

Great picture...the bays look set-up for just frame swamps. Your frame does not look that bad - does it look worse close up? any holes?

Wow this is crap.
They did not clean engine or anything. So all the sand and garbage now will end up inside various components. No thank you..
I would rather them give me a frame to do it myself.

pa here too, i was told by toyota they have no specific date the treatment will be made available as an "active" area in PA yet.

 

Me ? No. I am serious. I can see dust sand on the filter box and engine, in the meantime they have AC lines disconnected, Power steering lines, coolant etc.
I would hope they run power wash in engine compartment before they unplug all those line. Otherwise a lot of that junk is going to end up in components that it should not. So yeah you gonna get new frame but your AC is going to die soon, you going have sand in radiator and transmission, and require new steering rack, along with new fuel injection in near future. Neither will be covered by warranty.

 

Ok,, Now I understand. I need to take off the tin foil on my head ...

 

A good mechanic would take a compressed-air nozzle and blow out standing dust and dirt before commencing work.

 

If I was the tech, knowing I have a job that was going to last days, I'd have taken the truck outside and hit it with a hose, then gone to lunch. It's a much nicer job when you have a decent vehicle to work on. Makes all the difference in the world to enjoying your job, getting less filthy and not having to fight all that crap in your eye, on your tools and even the floor. I agree with KenLyns, That was not a great mechanic.
