Whaaaaat! New Amber led/white led combo bars?

Just thought I'd share. Not sure how 'new' these really are. Havent looked at led lights for a while but new to me! Pretty sick. Wonder when the leading us manufacturers will be coming out with this. I know all about the amber covers too, just think this is cooler

How so? You just have 2 LEDs in that space instead of 1. What is inherently wrong with that? All bi color LED products are the same way, no?

 

My supplier overseas has these, as well as split Amber/white where the white is the large middle, and amber on the outside. Similar to the flood/spot splits, but with two different colors. I haven't ordered any yet, but they do look interesting.

 

Is it just me.....or does it seem like a particular individual on here who just happens to be a lighting vendor tends to talk badly about products his company doesn't offer that may compete with his own products?

Not mentioning any names....but it's just something that I have noticed.

 

Hopefully he comes back with legit info and doesn't just write off everything as crap because of competition.

 

I saw those on those on ebay, ended up not getting one based on priced.

That and having 2 colors in 1 lightbar causes cancer.

 

I probly wont ever get one myself either, but I thought it might be intersting to those that want a light bar with amber covers/film, but dont want to mess with putting those covers on. It seems like a much more practical use to eaisly switch from one to the other while your driving to just switch on the ambers when needed in dust instead of having to get out and throw your cover on.. Right!?

Either that or they're too busy trying to dissuade people from buying other interesting products.

 

I bought a 50 inch radius LED lightbar from China and just got back from pounding dirt roads every day for a week in Moab. It rained on me one day and it's still working fine. I paid about $250. I can't say it won't die tomorrow but who knows. Just sayin'......

 

They have been around for some time, I thinks there isn't 2 LEDs just 1 that changes color

 

I've never seen two color LEDs. Cool if that's true.

Yeah the argument isn't really against Chinese bars, because all mine are from there and still doin great. I haven't even really heard any bad things about any bars from China, but I actually have regarding some of the name brands. That's just what 'I' personally have heard... But the argument hear is about the reasons why the 'switch back' leds would be a bad idea in a light bar..

 

Unless anything electronic specifically says it's made in the USA, it's probably made in China, even if it is an "American" brand. The Lifetime LED headlights boast that they are designed and engineered in the USA but in really small print, it says they are assembled in China.

All LEDs are "one color". In any given assembly there might be more than one LED chip to provide more than one color. RGB LEDs have three chips, one Red one Green and one Blue. This allows the mixing of colors and the ability to produce an almost infinite number of different hues when used with a controller.

In the case of these LED bars, they most likely have two LED chips per element, one white and one amber.

I've been playing around with LEDs since the early 1980's so I know a thing or two.

Well I was a kid in the '80s, so I'm not senile....yet. My dad was an electronics tech so we had all kinds of neat stuff to play with. LED technology has really advanced in the last ten years. There's a huge difference between what we have now and the weak little LED chips from the 80's that would blow up if you pushed more than 20 milliamps through them.

 

I even like how that one guy is doing the led bar 'back-lighting'. No lie but, he beat me to it. I thought about doing something like that but just didn't have the patience and time to start another project. Plus I'd have to get another bar because I'm not tearing my current ones apart. Lol. But yeah, I definitely like these mods.
I was also curious, since you know a bit about leds, if it's possible to install a dimmer to an led bar. Might be saying why the fuck would you want to dim them. But I have my reasons Just curious if it's possible or only if it's to be used for specific circuitry in the boards that will allow it to dim. I know vision x sells dimmers for their bars... But yeah, maybe even a strobe controller too! If I can buy a plug in controller then I'd be willing to play with it for fun. But I'm not into the whole rgb stuff. Maybe use my led bars or at least a couple of the smaller ones as daytime running lights...

 

No, it's because it's the very first version of this type, so there's no real world testing provided. If it was in high demand, you would see Rigid doing testing on it first, since they're really #1 in the off-road lighting market at this time.
