    Evening all:
Welcome back Capt. Just take it easy for awhile.

Hear you Mike on a fall. I've taken some dandies also, and was fortunate not to suffer any injury. I am finding out that walking over boulders, and on steep inclines can cause some discomfort though!

Got to agree; perfect day for the hot tub!

EBOLA IN NYC! All I can say is INCOMPETENT ASSHOLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why on the earth don't they quarantine anyone for a 30 day period after being around Ebola patients instead of letting them run around among the general public.
The only reason this could get out of control in the US is because of sheer stupidity, and it seems there's no shortage of stupidity. :(

Charlie better not go to Bellview Hospital in NYC!

Hey Charlie, it's good to see you back on the interweb, we sure have been worried about you. I hope the pain is subsiding and you are getting some rest. You sure are going down a rough road, but we all know you'll do everything you can to get back to your old self. It's nice to see you have a lot of good friends and family to help you weather the storm.
We'll continue to send prayers to you, your family, and friends. Take care and get well.

Hey Charlie, Does my heart real good to see the Cap'n posting and sounding like himself again. I know it's a rough long recovery ahead, but I also know you've got the gumption to see it through and snatch back your life on your terms. My thoughts and prayers have been with you and yours daily and will continue. Hang in there buddy, you'll be home in a little over a day; that should relieve some of the irritation and frustration.

Shame to hear them doing that to John ... truly strange times in which we are living ... the definitions of fair, just, and right seem to have been changed behind our backs. :frusty:

Stay strong minded my friend ... you'll come through all this fine.

    Sincerely, Rob

Added John to the prayer list for being able to keep the house. Take care and drop in when you can.

Common sense tells me you guys are right and that as we age we should slow down. Fool that I am, I am always pushing the window.

MQQse, I hope I spelled that correctly, we heat primarily with wood. We have a heat pump that takes over if we are gone, and when it gets too cold for the pump we have back up electric. Probably 95% of the heat is wood though.

The house is 2700' square, and one stove does most of the work. The second stove is in the master bedroom and only get fired up when it gets below 20* or so. We burn about 6 cords a year.

Charlie, I can understand the wish to go back and undo things, but they must have been a kick in the pants at the time. If I do not push hard for a day or so, I end up walking laps around the couch when I am supposed to be relaxing with the little woman. All due to the fact I have too much energy. And, the youngsters rarely can keep up.

This summer I built a retaining wall out of 70 pound segmented wall blocks. The wife kept telling me she was going to hire some kids to place the blocks. I practically begged her not to. The wall is 120 feet long and 5 feet high. It has about 750 blocks in it. It took me 3 days by myself, and it felt great to get the exercise.

The curse of old age for me is that I have the energy and physique of someone 30 years younger and it is pretty isolating.

Charlie! It is *great* to see you at the keyboard again. Quite a story about the blue light too. Spooky.

Sorry to hear that John is having money troubles. I've heard a lot of stories about Wells Fargo and how they could care less. These days it is all but impossible to get a mortgage from a local bank because they just sell them anyway.

We've refi'd twice, and both times our mortgage ended up bought up/back with Wells Fargo.

The picture of that Landing Craft brings back memories for me too!

Looks like the ones used to transport us to/from the carrier dock at Cubic Bay and the EM Club on Grande Island in the Philippines. The trip out to Grande Island was usually uneventful; but the trip back to the carrier late at night was ALWAYS interesting .... bunch of drunk sailors singing, puking, etc.. One night was particularly memorable .... tell you about that some day.

Charlie, what can I say? You pulled through, buddy. Good On Ya!! Come back SLOWLY and build up some energy for the next round. Appears a lot of us are in your corner.

    Tex

Now, with all due respect to my elders and all  .........

Seriously, you set up the story, then walk away with "tell you about that some day" ????

Get back here and tell the story ... Errrr, please. :D

Hi Mike, took me a couple of years to learn how to relax a bit and let the youngun's help out. Gives me a break and lets them learn:D. Exercise is best in the gym where there are more buff women to keep your mind busy:thumbsup::drool::facepalm:

Hey Carl, can you picture cruisin' up the river for walleye in the the LCM:eek:...:D

Wells Fargo is one of the worst banks out there:mad:. They can screw you over and not even think twice. Have my mortgage through my credit union and I don't have any problems:thumbsup:. Glad to see you are back for a bit now and again. Take it easy and do what they tell you in PT.

4 more years(and not for Obama either) and it will be a mortgage burning party:kona::humble::rimshot::yay::cheers::woot::jellydance::thumbsup::broccoli::taco::rockband::drunk::amen:

Don't keep us in suspense Tex(Mike)...inquiring minds want to know:D......Please

I remember the mountain well. Our Central Office, phone system building, was close by at the entrance to the depot. I did a lot of work in Camp Tien Shaw (SP).

Charlie - you give new meaning to the term Blue Light Special now. Glad to hear you are springing back - can read it in the tone of your email that the old spunk is coming back.

Sorry to hear about John - hate to see people who are trying to make it work get the shaft.

    Rob, Ken, et al,

My apologies for holding back on the story for that night in Cubic Bay. In that post I was primarily focused on Charlie's comeback and his future trials and tribulations. He is certainly in my thoughts and prayers.

Several of us went out to Grande Island to have some drinks, etc. One fellow had WAY TOO MANY screwdrivers (Vodka & Orange Juice). He was totally sick on the way back to the carrier. Four of us (also snookered) carried him up the gangplank where the duty officer looked at us and said "take him to his bunk". We carried him up the 6 or 7 ladders to our quarters when he started to smell .... he had pooped big time in his pants !!We took him into a shower area and turned 4 shower heads on him. One guy finally pulled his clothes off, we hosed him down some more, rolled him up in a blanket, and tossed him up in his bunk. The guy woke up a day later and didn't remember a thing. THAT's what being a sailor is all about.

    Tex
