I very much agree with this. That said, everyone has a different budget and can only handle so much. Resi's or not, Icon makes a great product and you are sure to be happy whichever direction you go.

This is exactly what I'm doing. Gonna keep it basic and do some other stuff (lights, bumpers, sliders and maintenance stuff) a little bit at a time. One I'm done with college though, game on!

    Mornin Bishes !

I am also looking at the engineering aspect of it as well, while the Resi provides extra capacity for oil which in turn the by product is an air cooling effect. The Resi also provides a dampening effect as well as you can not compress a liquid and the nitrogen works as an actuator or essentially a integral 'Bump Stop' if you will. Now This Only Pertains To Some Designs - The Icon VS 2.5 RR for example, so if you're not wheeling for extreme durations bump stops in the back are a redundancy. If you are at speed for hours on end then bump stops in conjunction with suspension components that incorporate the RR Resi with internal bump stops will share the load equally.

The other more obvious aspect of the 2.5 design package advantage is ( to work with / as designed from the Toyota Engineers from the Factory ) any front coil over or the rear shock is the load bearing component. If one stays mid travel or at factory specifications then this is true. If one goes long travel and alters the operational parameters on how the suspension components function then limit straps, gussets, extended bump stops, shock relocation will be required. Since most keep the factory operational handling characteristics of the suspension then the shocks will continue to be the load bearing component of the suspension. At least in regards to full extension (Droop) and at full compression (Bump) and the thicker cylinder rod (7/8" for the Icon VS 2.5 Coil Over or Rear) is a dramatic strength improvement over stock.

I am also of the opinion that (on the PreRunner) lifted spindles are a must to keep the factory geometry and keep the pre load off the coil over as much as practical. Just because a component can handle an application doesn't mean that is it was necessarily designed to do so. The coil over, by design, is for dampening and mitigation of terrain impulses on the suspension. The coil is designed to maintain ride height to keep the suspension components (UCA, LCA, Steering Tie Rods, Wheel Bearings) with in those operating parameters to maintain proper alignment of the component group on the whole. Dampening being the main system design with ride height be secondary. It is not surprising I've scoured through countless threads with people unhappy with their high end suspension components when excessive pre load, added weight to the vehicle and VERY Unrealistic Expectations has everything to do with why the vehicles is knocking their kidneys out of their backs.

Please chime in, this is data that I have gathered so far and my understanding of suspension systems and how they work as a whole, in conjunction with each other and how one component(s) can adversely affect the entire system.

In my personal opinion the Icon seems the best fit for a MT application on a stock vehicle body ( No Armour, 400+ Weight in the bed ) and properly set up base suspension. By properly set up base suspension (PreRunner) Rear Leaf Pack or AAL (Depending on Application) with lifted spindles in front all equipped with correct length brake lines. This will maintain proper factory geometry and the Icon 2.5 RR Coil Overs and 2.5 RR rear shocks will best fit just about everything the truck can handle to catastrophic failure of base (frame, joints, wheel damage) components. I do need to add however that the Factory UCA Can NOT Accommodate the increased Outside Diameter of the Icon 2.5 Coil Over design and will require an after market UCA in order for the coil over to clear properly. We are all familiar with the advantages (better geometry, larger, stronger material, tubular or boxed design) of aftermarket UCAs and I will not go at length on these.

Just my couple of pennies so please feel free to snipe . . .

Haha, I actually listened during our conversations ! !

Really appreciate how you went over the design aspects in relation to how the components work synergisticly . . .
