In NJ: takes 2-5 months to get the permit to buy. Permits expire after 90 days, so usually safest to get 3 at a time, but can only buy 1 handgun every 30 days. There is usually a 2-3 week delay between the official date when the permit is granted and when the police actually give it to you, so if you use your first permit the day you get it..21 days have already lapsed, meaning you cant use your second permit until to 51st day and the third permit potentially on the 82nd day. If you drag your feet, you might laps the 90 days and have to go back to police to request an extension. I submitted my paperwork in June, and my checks still havent cleared. Once they clear, which means the forms are processed, it will be another month before the paperwork comes back. My wife lucked out and got her paperwork back in 2 months, when submitted at the same time.

My CZ accushadow , which had an 8 week build time, has been sitting in storage at the dealer for 2.5 months waiting for my permit to show up...which it still hasnt.

What a stupid fucking state that gave us the Old Bridge mall shooting. Good thing everything is so difficult because it seems to be preventing gun violence 100%.

He must have similar laws in his state as we have here in CA.

10 day waiting period/cooling off before taking possession of gun

30 days in between purchase of NEW pistols (does not apply to private party sales. 10 day waiting period does though)

10 day waiting period has been found to infringe on 2nd Amendment rights in CA and ruled illegal. This happened a month or two ago but the judge put a 180 day stay on the ruling so the 10 day waiting period is still in effect until early next year.

I bought a Bristol ballistic gun case at an friends of the NRA banquet auction on Thursday evening

The case is sweet, it's got a built in lock and is even fire resistant

I just got a cheapo dual rifle bag from eBay. It actually seems rather nice.

Mossberg 500 12g 8 shot, pretty psyched! Pick it up in 10 days. There are so many upgrades I plan on giving this versatile machine. Any personal experience/ advice? Would like to get tactical stock/ forend, already got storage box and shell sleeve for base stock. Thinking desert tan would be cool for new parts.

Mine is mostly for hunting so i havent done much. Added a GG&G (i think) sling mount point to the front of the tube. But i plan to add the magpul forend if it will fit on mine.

Might be worth it to pick up the longer barrel for hunting (or home defense) depending what barrel came with it. The 8+1 is 18"?

Trust me, I can't wait to get out of CA. Been here only 2 years to know it sucks. The barrel is 20". Probably going to leave the barrel length, using it for camping security and home defense.

Looking at this ATI tactical conversion kit, looks like a sweet deal.

I should add, I told my girlfriend after I bought it and she is NOT stoked. Her grandpa shot himself, and she was the one who found him. I just feel it's necessary to protect her and our two dogs. Any advice on warming her up to the idea? I've shot plenty of guns and am comfortable around them, but she has only that experience with them.

.22 rifle to start with, convince her to try it and make sure you have fun targets (sealed coke cans work well, the explode, makes it a lot of fun)

At least that is what I would do, I started my girlfriend out wit a .22 pistol, same basic idea though. Start with small calibers and work you way up in my opinion

First time i took my gf shooting we shot my AK with fixed stock. It bruised her shoulder pretty good and she only wanted to shoot handguns. Took her back out with my 22 rifle and shot it first showing her it didn't recoil at all and now it's her favorite firearm of mine to shoot.
