Hi, I've been researching for a while now into getting a temp gauge/compass for my overhead console. (currently have a garage door opener in its spot)

I have figured out that I need a whole new console, and I do know that there is wiring up there for the temp gauge and compass but I could not find the actual sensor where everyone said it was.. on the front of the radiator by the hood latch.

Does this mean that my Tacoma isn't properly wired for the temp sensor or is it somewhere else?

I've got a 2006 Tacoma double cab if this helps

The plug for the temp sensor should be about 6" below the hood latch, and might be very hard to see without removing the grille, which is pretty easy to do.

Yes, get ahold of the wiring harness going to the horns, and follow it down the center support. You should located the connector.

Here is the wiring harness in the overhead console. Is there another location where the sensor should be?

Ok I dug this little guy up, I'm guessing this is where there is supposed to be a sensor plugged into it?

Where are you guys getting ahold of the compass/thermometer unit and sensor? I am looking to do this same thing for my 2014 Tacoma. My 2007 Tacoma had it, but the 2014 doesn't. Doesn't make much sense to me, Toyota went backwards.

I'd like to do this too to my '14 Sport BUT I'm guessing that we may not already have the factory wiring to the overhead console where our 2nd sunglass holder is located (Man, u can't have enough sunglass holders!)

2014 Taco TRD here. When I installed my Gentex mirror there were only 3 wires, the constant hot, the switched hot, and ground. No sensor wiring. You'll have to run your own.

OP, you just missed one for sale here a week ago. If you haunt the buy/sell/trade section daily, they come along once in a while. Just keep in mind that the correct one for your '06 is different than the '09-'11 ones. The console is the same, but the gauge is different internally. Not sure if the sensors are different, but suspect not.

For those with '12 and up, I think you're out of luck. I don't believe that any of the wiring you need is sitting there waiting to be plugged in.

There's a bunch of threads on swapping consoles from a few years ago. Doesn't come up as much anymore since they moved the temp display to the mirror.
