Turn steering wheel straight. See the two screws when looking through the spokes? Remove screws. Then carefully snap apart both the upper and lower halves of the steering wheel cover (the parts that cover the ignition switch). Use the tilt and telescope function to help if necessary.

The S8 connector is on the right side adjacent to the ignition sw but more toward you as you are seated. It is a 12-pin connector that has 2 rows of six and is probably black on yours (only a very few connectors have appeared that are white).

I took a pic of the under dash cover removed / out of the way

It does not look like my truck is pre-wired, unless I am not looking at it correctly

Well, bummer. My heart sunk into my shoes when I originally saw mine like that. Being all OCD I got mad and decided to make it work. CC is one of the most satisfying mods I have done.

So now you are part way there...

did you install a cruise control unit in your Tacoma?

    what is the procedure?

    is it a difficult procedure?

^^^I made mine entirely from scratch using OEM parts that I purchased.

Is it difficult? It's all relative. Everyone's comfort level with wiring is different. I have been shepherding the CC stuff on another forum. One guy just could not understand it at all and after many posts I finally suggested that he move on to another mod. However, some find it easy.

This link is the procedure. http://www.thecruisecontrolstore.com/content/250-1836-2009-2013Tacoma.pdf

Study the procedure. Do you think you could do this or is the thought of seeing a bunch of colored wires intimidating? Only you can answer that question.

I will say that you should not attempt any short cuts or modifications once you get to the point of having to plug in the terminals to the connector on the ECU. One of those connectors is no longer available and if you mess it up you are in trouble.

I doubt I will feel comfortable doing this MOD, I am not good with wiring stuff and get intimidated with electrical jobs....

I may have to live without CC, bummer...

Unless I find someone local who has done this MOD, maybe he can help me out....

    thank you for your advise

Wow, I'm surprised, I thought all 6 lug trucks of that vintage were prewired. Good thing you checked before buying the other parts.

It's prewired but he checked wrong lol.
You don't plug it on the column (if we're technically speaking we are)
But you must remove your airbag and behind the bag is the clockspring where the harness you buy with the cruise control switch is connected too

All the clocksprings have the cruise control conductors, so if its not prewired, its on the column side of the clockspring where it will show. So I'd have to say he checked correctly.

Hitch and wiring, aux back-up light, rear strobe lights, radio and underseat sub.
I had to change out the jumper, under the airbag. Everything else was plug and play.

I bought a used steering wheel that was fully outfitted with cruise and controls so I could retrofit my 09 base reg cab DE3F89E5-CDE6-4639-921F-26FEE9E79125.jpg

This is what is currently installed. It does have clutch cancel but the light in the dash does not light up when engaged.

Other than a clockspring and trimming the airbag cover, what else will I need to make the dash light come on?

You are prewired. I did my 05. Disconnect your battery first. Took all of 10-15 minutes
    It'll be plug n play

No not really. I'm specifically looking how to see if my truck is prewired from the column to the ECU.

You need to take the new OEM switch out of your donor steering wheel (it has three wires coming out of the plug, 2 run the CC, and one is for the horn), and take apart the wheel on your truck. Then plug in the new CC stalk/horn wire into where you horn is plugged into (and possibly your aftermarket CC is hooked up), and try turning the CC on with the OEM switch. If the cruise lights up green in your dash, your truck is pre-wired.

All are “prewired” regardless. If you don’t have the extra connector in your clockspring you simply need to take out the one that’s there (it’s only a ground) pull it out of the male connector and insert it into a new connector that has the wires for the cruise. It’s pretty simple
