This. I remember looking into a salvage title locally. Didn't know it was salvage until I went to go see it. He was still asking non-salvage price. I told him that and he didn't budge. I also told him you should have stated it in the ad and not wasted my time. Good bye. Also, AAA told me they wouldn't insure a salvage title.
LOL. Yeah, anyone who falls into that gets what they deserve.

Actually the scamming community is evolving and in some instances are considerably more sofisticated than one might imagine. Ads in cars.com and autotrader.com are not immune from these attempts to dislodge shoppers from their dollars. Following Bamatoys list is certainly good idea and maintaining a good dose of skepticism is healthy.

I'm going to have some fun! I contacted the seller to see what they have to say. I will post up the email exchange if they bite.

    OP:
I have driven my uncle's 04 double cab Tacoma with the 3.4 auto, and I daily drive my regular cab 2.7 manual, and I could almost think they are equally as quick. Granted, the double cab has a few hundred pounds over my regular cab, but I really don't think the 3.4 is too much better than the newer 2.7s (like what you and I both have). BUT that is just my opinion.
If you wanted a V6 Tacoma, I would look at the 05+ Tacoma's with the 4.0 liter.

Not high mileage at all really, but I would check to be sure the timing belt has been replaced in the last 50k miles at least.

TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP DONE AT 114K MILES
    127K MILES NOW

Like Bill said, not high mileage. Not even 10k/year mileage on a 13 yo truck. I was ecstatic to get an 01 with 100k in 09.

It's just broken in. You can easily get 300k+ miles out of these if you take care of them.

Yes, I am looking at them as well. Just they are kinda pricey over the older ones.

I don't know about Montana, but over here in RI, the 03-04 double cabs command a higher price than the 05+ double cabs! It is insane what people want for thier first gen truck!
Also, I know people went over this, but if the price in an ad looks to good to be true (like the one you posted), they are scams.

I have a 04 taco & a 00 4runner both 4x4's with the 3.4L. I love the 3.4's. The taco is a manual trans. I tow a 2400lb camper with a dirtbike and gear in the bed and it performs great on the highway. The 4runner is a heavier vehicle and with its auto trans is not as peppy as the lighter manual trans taco.

Nice save! I am digging your little campers, always liked those light Scamps, they only weigh like 900lbs dry or something.

Thanks, this is why i purchased my taco cheap. Po owner had a serious oil leak and ran it low on oil which caused the damaged as pictured. It was just a loose oil filter but instead of having the leak checked out he just kept driving and adding oil. Bed was full of empty oil containers. It's a 17ft. casita, very similiar to the scamp. I like the taco you have pictured, as long as the maintance is kept up these lil engines can reach 300k miles easily. When it comes to these trucks mileage doesn't scare me, rust does. If possible have the seller meet at a auto repair facility and have it put up on a lift for a good undercarriage inspection. I always tap the frame with a small hammer to check for internal frame rust, they can rust from the inside out. Good luck with your search.

The 1st gens sell for so much because they are one solidly built truck. In my opinion they are better than the 2nd gens in many ways.

Everything I've read about them says they are bulletproof tough. And I just got my 2011 sold today, getting the money tomorrow and heading up to Missoula to check out this truck over the weekend, the wait is gonna kill me!!
