I've got a 2015 DCSB. I'm wanting to buy some chrome running boards but have no idea what to look for. This is the first truck I've ever owned so I'm not up to speed on things like this. I am a firm believer in the phrase you get what you pay for. I also know some products are overpriced. But I'm curious what the differences are between a set of $400 running boards say from Toyota and running boards that look identical going for $150 on carid.com. I don't mind paying more for a better product. I want to know from your guys' experience what you've used and what I can expect/should pay for a good product.

    Thanks,
    Daryl

    What color is you truck?

Just my opinion ... I just put OEM black boards on my Barcelona Red ... they look and fit great.

I'd personally avoid the chrome ones. Especially living in an area where they salt the roads during the winter.

I've run these.. For 9 years now and they still look exactly the same as when they were purchased.

FYI- You'll get lots of people telling you that you need sliders, but if you're not doing much off road, they're probably overkill.

It's a blue ribbon metallic. I'm not a chrome fan. Never have been. But I saw a picture of a blue ribbon metallic, lifted a few inches with chrome wheels and running boards and thought it looked pretty good. So I think I'm going the chrome route. I blacked out my 4runner and it looks great, but the blacked out look and black wheels are getting played out here.

This truck is a complete mall crawler. Lol. I just want something that looks nice. The only off roading I plan on doing might be the occasional dirt road.

If you want the chrome look without the risk of flaking or chipping you can look to get polished stainless steel. Tech Tubes offer some. I had a set on my Dak for 12 years and they kept their shine all the way through, no flaking or chipping.

Chrome ones in Spokane won't look good after one season. If you do go chrome, you'll want to pull them off in the fall along with your chrome wheels if you go that route. Otherwise they'll be pitted.

You can steel wool them, but you'll need to do it religiously. If you wait too long, they get past the point of no return.

Lol. With whatever that crap is that the county puts on the roads, I'm surprised the paint on my other cars didn't come off in the spring.

Do you want running boards or nerf bars?

The former looks good on pavement princess 4 Runners; the latter on Tacomas.

Ive seen a couple ppl trying to sell the OEM chrome ones that tacoma pushes. You can probably find a set on here somewhere…

To be honest, I didn't know there was a difference. But now that you mention it, and without actually looking up both terms, I am betting I meant to say nerf bars. Lol. Ask me about building or tuning a turbo engine and I am fine, but ask me about accessories for a truck and I'm clueless. Can't wait until I have a question about lifts. Ha.
