On my 2012 Tacoma, there's some metallic material on the inside top of the windshield. It runs all the way around the windshield. What the heck does it do? I first thought it was an am/fm antenna, but when I removed my pole antenna, I didn't get any am/fm reception. The weird thing is that on my 2006 Camry, the windshield has exactly the same thing. But the Camry doesn't have a pole antenna and it gets great am/fm reception. So I'm thinking on the Camry, it's the antenna. Maybe I'm wrong, could be just a decorative thing. So what is it?

Its to block the sun, so you dont blind yourself looking at your rear veiw mirror if the sun happens to be at that perfect angle.

The piece in the middle is a sunscreen to make up for the space between the visers

I think he is referring to the dark edge that goes all the way around the windshield. That is there to hide the edges of the interior trim pieces that stop at the windshield so you don't see the edges/gaps from the outside.

That makes sense, that it's a sunscreen. That's what I love about these forums, getting weird questions answered. I know this is a Tacoma forum, but where are they hiding the am/fm antenna on my Camry?

Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
Those dots are sunscreen referred to as matrix. Many manufacturers use that, I had it on my wife's old Bonneville around the edges, trying to tint over it makes a poor job.

The top part of the rear window defroster-looking lines on a Camry is the antenna. When I first got my '07 Camry I thought that the top part of the rear window defroster didn't work ... duh .... it was the antenna.
