I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
Good mechanic would do that, great mechanic would send through power wash.
I doubt any of these guys sit with air nozzle and clean every line before disconnecting. Maybe if it was their truck.
I would suggest going through wash with the truck before handing it to these guys. Both engine bay and underside, including cleaning the axles.
I have not went for inspection yet but I am planning to do a cleanup before I go.

Thats what they should have done but I bet none or very small number of people does that. Simply job pays flat rate, so more frames they do the more money they make.

Just picked up my truck with a new frame, leafs, & shocks. I've been really impressed with the customer service, they provided a rental (2014 4Runner Limited), said the truck would be done in 3 days, and gave me a discount on a oil change and transfer case/differential service. Truck drives like a dream so far! 0 complaints

If you take the car in for an individual job, say radiator replacement, spark plug change, or steel braided brake line installation, the typical flat-rate mechanic would not clean hoses and fittings before disconnection. No reason to expect a power wash when all the work is done together for frame replacement, especially when it might cause more issues - all it takes is for water to be forced into one of the electrical connectors and you can have random electrical gremlins forever.

Just FYI.... In my comments I meant that "I" and IMO a good mechanic would not want to work on that for days without a least a hose down, not necessarily a complete Power wash down. I meant that for the Tech not for the customer..... Of course the customers get at least a hose off as well ...

I just received my Service Campaign notice for the frame inspection. My regular NYS truck inspection is do next month, so I may schedule the frame inspection then.

I am hoping for a new frame because mine is super rusty, but I am not sure if it will fail or not.

I brought my shit box in and they didn't find any holes . Just surface rust . I told the girl I don't want the rubber tar put on and she said no problem . Bring your truck in every 6 months and we will inspect it for rot holes till 2016 . Hopefully it rots out by then :)

Now that is interesting. I'm sure others here will like this option. Did you get that in writing ???

I didn't know they would let you do that. I was under the impression if it passed now, they were done with you and had no further liability to repair or replace the frame. I did have an appt.scheduled, but cancelled it when I saw we had over a year till the campaign expired, two more NY winters might be the kiss of death for my frame. I believe it is bad right now, but would most likely still pass the inspection. I am keeping Fluid Film on it, to try and protect what's left, but it's a tough spot to be in. Do you keep treating it and try to save it, or let the salt eat it so you possibly fail the inspection?

I'm hoping for it to rot out and get a new frame . I don't really want the coating . All that will do is hide the damage .

This is from the technical instructions PDF posted earlier in the thread:
"In order to receive the warranty extension, customers must bring in the vehicle to a Toyota dealer before March 31, 2016."

So yes, you can chose not to get the CRC coating now and come back before March 31, 2016.

The way I read this, is that Toyota want's to inspect and try to salvage what they can by applying the CRC coating . By not coating it when they say so (possibly when it is inspected and reported back to Toyota?) it "might" mean that the extended warranty may not be valid since free Toyota available maintenance was not performed.

In other words, I'd wait until you are sure the frame is bad enough to fail or wait until just before the MArch, 2016 deadline. Of Course, If the Frame is OK in 2016 and the CRC is applied then, you may have lost any long term benefit of the CRC if it does help. IMO

That's why I am not in any hurry for the inspection. Right now the frame is not rusting through so I'll wait a couple more winters before taking it in.

I'm taking mine into the local Toyota dealer tomorrow for an inspection. My frame has surface rust on it, but no perforation that I have found. I have decided to hear what they have to say tomorrow before I make any decisions.

Thanks. I just traded in a 2000 Silverado Extended SB with 175k on it because the frame was about ready to dissolve with rust. I'm really not thrilled with this since I haven't even made my first payment on this truck... The dealership I am going to is the same one the previous owner used (Woburn Toyota in Woburn, Massachusetts). I have no clue if the previous owner had it checked before I bought it or not. I just want a little piece of mind, I guess. I figure that either way I will benefit. My issue is I am a terrible procrastinator and I am afraid that if I don't go and have it inspected now, I might never have it done.

Well good luck with your visit. I used to work in Chelmsford/Billerica/Littleton area in past jobs. Just FYI. I have had , and heard nothing but good things from Herb Chambers in Auburn (a little bit of a ride for you) but in case you want a different dealer.

My dealer is booking appointments for the inspection for May 2015 as they are that busy. Works for me.
