What's Next After your Tacoma?

I like your idea with the sti, that is definitely what i would like to do as well. Especially since the evo is discontinued after 2015.

 

Thanks, I didn't know they were killing the Evo. But then again, I've heard that rumor several times too. Maybe they are tired of catering for a niche market? But the STi is in that same market so I hope it doesn't die too.

 

Thats the last i heard. But i dont follow too close honestly. Id love for them both to stay in the market. I almost wanted to look at them instead of the taco but obviously didnt. But it will be the next toy for sure. 5 years to go till im paid off.

 

I would want a BMW 335 or an m3. I also live the new 4th gen 4Runners

 

Tacoma will be paid off in 1.5 yrs. Then, the wife wants a convertible, I want something fast, and it has to be AWD in Colorado. So...its looking like an Audi RS4 cabriolet or a Porsche 996TT cab or 997TT cab.

Or if its up to me...a cabin with acreage in the mountains. Better investment than a car...

 

Sat in a 2013 RS5. Badass machine.

 

IS-F sounds nice and probably cheaper used, but I would recommend a low milage Mercedes C63 AMG, if not for the cool exhaust sounds from that 6.2 V8.

 

I didn't know they had plans to kill off the Evo either. I doubt they want to, after all, the Evo is practically the only thing that sells on a Mitsubishi lot. To be honest, I couldn't even tell you where the nearest Mitsu dealer is in my area, truthfully I didn't even know they still sold new cars here.

I'm not bashing them either, as I've always been slightly interested in the Evo product, but avoided it due to a dismal dealer network. Also not sure I would trust the quality of service available at a Mitsubishi dealer. I could be totally wrong on my perception, but common sense leads me to believe, a manufacture with a lack of or nearly non-existent dealer network, may not have the most qualified or experienced staff for working on something like an Evo.

Seems like when I take my Subaru in, almost all the staff and techs are enthusiast. Drive by my nearest Toyota dealer, and the tech parking lot looks like a Moab or Rubicon Off-Road convention.

 

Paid off the Taco 4+ years ago. Then we got the Solstice (my signature)! Oh, and it is paid off as well

 

You jerk, lol. Trying to fit into Oz's shoes? LOL

A) the Baja suspension is actually very nice.
B) Did some research, didn't think the Baja suspension would be a good fit otherwise would have done it.
C) Don't really need an enhanced suspension on the '05 Tundra. Already has 1-1.5 inches more ground clearance stock from front crossmember to pumpkin than the Tacoma with the same 265/75/16's.
D) No goofy crossover exhaust on the Tundra
E) No goofy extreme carrier bearing angle, no driveline vibrations, smooth as silk.
F) Has this thing called "padding" on the rear seats in the Access Cab. Rear 60/40 foldup bench with folddown center console.
G) 2005 Tundra Access Cab with decent rear seats and 6.3-ft bed and a real step bumper, i.e., can get my foot on it, is only 218.1 inches therefore fits into my garage. Fifty inches between the wheel wells in the bed. That's a big deal.
H) A/C and heat feeds into the rear seats through the front center console. Front center console opens straight up, has a separate lid on top.
I) Power rear slider, locking tailgate, heated mirrors, factory alarm for doors, windows, hood.
J) Quieter cabin.
K) Smooth 282hp 325 torque 4.7l V8 that gets the same fuel mileage as the 4.0l V6. I'm getting 14-19 after 11k miles, same as with the 4.0.
L) NEGATIVE ALERT - spent $800 having the 4.7l timing belt and water pump replaced, recommended to be done every 90k miles.
M) NEGATIVE ALERT - doesn't handle as well stock as the Tacoma at high speed 65mph +. That heavy steel bed, the rear end tends to twitch too much doesn't follow the front end well. Had to put a Hellwig rear sway bar on it for highspeed handling. $270.
N) Still does very well offroad with the rear swaybar on. I hit some tough Colorado rocky mountain roads and didn't get any significant wheelspin having the factory Eaton mechanical rear LSD. Actually did better than the SR5 4WD Tacoma on the same roads. It's all about ground clearance and the LSD rear keeping the truck from going to two wheel drive in 4LO. Certainly not as good as A-TRAC for 4LO, though.
O) Better visibility, the side windows are taller and longer, windshield also. Some people may not care, but I do.
P) Tundra has the Shift-L button which is the same as HAC/DAC, keeps the auto trans locked into low gear. Also, the pushbutton 4HI/4LO switch engages easier than the Tacoma twist switch.

Badass truck. I know badass trucks because I had three Toy trucks before this, two Tacomas. 2005 Tundra is badass offroad, smoother, quieter, and more comfortable onroad and offroad. Basically, it's what the Gen2 Tacoma should have been. Maybe the Gen3 Tacoma can match it.

whats next after my tacoma..besides another tacoma...

 

Started a 1954 Chevrolet 3100 build in my auto shop class to raise hell on the weekend with. After college probably going to dump my taco for a full size. Maybe a Silverado or even a Raptor. Might stay with toyota if they step their game up, but the way its going now, definitely switching.

 

Ridgeline? As in Honda Ridgeline? I think those things are hideous but to each their own

 

You aren't kidding about the Subaru techs. I made several friends with them just chatting about my WRX and the mods that I had done to it. Subaru in general is a niche brand anyway I think so it lends itself to more enthusiasts. But I understand why when you hear the sound of an EJ motor with unequal length headers. Bad for performance, great for making an opposing 4 sound mean

Like you, I couldn't tell you where a Mitsubishi dealer is, but I do know someone who has a standard model Lancer. I don't know if they still make the Eclipse or not. I guess they do, but it's not much of a car since the bubble body IMHO.

I don't think I've ever looked at the cars at the Toyota lots. But, I've only taken my truck in for 2 of the Toyota Care appointments and then I started to do the service on my own since I switched to synthetic oils.

I got about 2.5 years of payments left on my Taco and then a year of hardcore saving so I can pay cash for a STi (expecting ~$30k for a low mileage model)... Soo, project toy Subi count down in 3.5 years

Until then, I can look at pictures of my WRX


Also, when I start my STi build, I'm going after the S206 look cosmetically.

 

You will be back, and like me come full circle. When I was in High School, I started out with a '92 22RE, reg cab 4x4, no A/C, no power anything, didn't even have a rear bumper or pass side mirror lol. Beat it to snot, and never let me down.

Have owned a laundry list of Domestics, Dodge, Chevy and Ford and had a Frontier and five other Toyota trucks in the mix. I recently sold my '13 FX4 EcoBoost (which was badass) only to get back into a Tacoma, simply because of the drum-tight build quality, that even to this day the domestics still can't match, as well as reliability and re-sale-value.

I won't post how much I lost to get out of my '13 Ford F-150 FX4, as it's not for the faint of heart, but you can bet I will never make the same mistake twice going forward.

 

As much I as like what Mercedes brings out every year, the reliability is a deal breaker for me. The V8 rumble from the C63 is very sexy indeed

 

I just bought a 2010 BMW M3, loving it. Keeping the Taco though.

 

I have been really wanting a luxury, but fast. I'm thinking RS6 but realizing they are not in america, may have to change it up a bit. So maybe an A4 Avant or STI. Who knows time will tell.
