So in the rock crawling and long travel worlds, you have to be able to clear tires at full stuff because you are going to see full stuff a lot. They both needs lots of suspension travel for their own reasons and this is why it is difficult to fit larger tires because we added extra travel and they have to clear through that whole range. All the mall crawlers are always asking how much lift they need to fit XX tire, etc because they typically only use 2-3" of their travel at most so they are just clearing at ride height. It's really easy to clear a tire at ride height, especially if you use a lift to add some ride height.

In all of my experience snow wheeling and seeing some of these Icelandic builds; they don't need anymore suspension travel than you need on the street because you rarely flex out in the snow and you're usually not hauling ass through rough terrain like Prerunners. You just need the tallest widest tire you can get on there to keep you on top of the snow and to keep you from high-centering as easy if you do sink into the snow. This is why they just throw body lifts on and do some cutting if needed. They never see full stuff; typically just ride height so you see them cutting less to clear 40's than you see some of us cutting to clear 35's.

Truck looks really good, I just looked at your whole build thread. Now you added another item to my list of things to do which is the inner fender delete, and maybe a new core support. Very clean set up.

We need to go do some shock tuning together soon. A short wheel base truck is a different beast and doesn't let you get away with as much before it gets squirrely.

Next time out take someone with you that will take some video of you making a few passes through what you would typically drive through and send to SDHQ.

My truck drove like shit with off the shelf valving. I'm getting closer but still not where it should be. If I get my truck back in the next couple weeks I plan on having it where it needs to be by Thanksgiving.

we were all getting pics and vids on a nice whoop section off of sand highway. wasn't sure where you were. just have the pin it. 35 was definitely not enough for those. i hit it at about 45 and was still not quick enough.

When I go hit the dunes I raise my front end up to where I only have about 2" of down travel and 7" up travel (*I'm not LT). I find I need all the up travel I can get and the lack of downtravel doesn't seem to affect me.

When driving around town the lack of downtravel sucks ass because I hear the shocks bottom out on potholes and speed bumps (unless I hit them with speed, haha).

Sand may be a tad different than the desert since there may be some drops here and there while the dunes near me are up smashing into inclines at speed. So I find myself smacking my diff skid into shit more often the lower I am...

That's interesting, my cousins who have sand rails have the travel set so they mostly have down travel instead of up travel.

Yeah. Sandrails typically have a centered A-arm setup so they can have tons of travel without getting real wide. My guess is that they have found they have enough up travel for what they do and they set it lower to have a lower COG for cornering.
