I tightened my parking brake today because it wouldnt hold the truck on a very slight incline or even slow it when I pulled the handle all the way out. Before I tightened it the brake light on my dash would come on and off randomly.

I tightened it today almost as far as I could adjust it, it will now hold the truck in one place on a very slight incline at around 17 clicks.

Now the brake light stays on much more constantly when I drive. I don't have a clue what is causing this. Are my drums just worn out (whatever wears out on them?) Ive never worked on drum brakes before.

hello folks, just wanted to share i did my brake swap to the tundra 231mm, with stainless hoses and hard lines. cross vented rotors and ceramic pads. I gotta say it stops quite well. I have also done the gray wire mod and spark plugs. It sits stock height with leer camper and its a silver 2004 pics here

I've heard it sometimes comes on with low brake fluid level..

    Yeah, check your fluid level.

Also, 17 clicks is quite a bit. It lists how many is considered normal in the FSM. 8-12 comes to mind but I don't have the FSM in front of me to check.

Was reading somewhere earlier that said 12 to 18 was where it should be. I know im at the very far end of that range.

Going to go check the fluid in a minute.

Ah, yeah. I'm pulling from fuzzy memory so go with what you think it is.

Somewhere in there, I think the brake light will also come on when the fluid is low.

Also, the sensor for the parking brake is at the end of the hand lever and can get cranky overtime. I always have to push it down a tad at the bottom of the travel after I release it. I had the dealership adjust it but it came back after 6 months.

Not sure if you checked in the reservoir or not but last week I installed new brakes and when I was bleeding them, I looked at the res and it looked full. The damn thing was stained so bad that it fooled me and was bone dry, needless to say, had to start bleeding all over. Just a thought.

Stuff and things that make it better.
Over the weekend did the end cap mod and added another crossmember to the front of the frame.

Complete OME kit w/ 881's and dakars. All-Pro Sliders, CB, HAM Radio and various other minor stuff.
Mine has the same problem. I traced it to the spring lever under the driver side frame that connects the t-handle to the parking brake cable. At least with mine, rust had built up in the spring preventing the spring from putting full tension on the t-handle.

I adjusted the cable so that the bell crank springs put just enough tension on the t-handle to keep the light off but it is still sticky if I leave the parking cable set for long periods of time.

Best solution would be to replace the intermediate assembly, 46301 and 46301A.

 nice! Looks just like mine.. How long did you have the ARB on before you did this? Were the stock end caps all warped?
