I'll probably get some pictures tomorrow. But there won't be any new painting. The shop will be buffing out and whatnot the hood, fenders, and will try with the headlight covers for around $150. The rest of the cost is to -replace- the bumper cover, grille, and lower grille. Because nearly all of it textured plastic and the scratches are to deep... I don't believe there are any other options with the current plastics.

I agree. OP did she scratch up the fender flares too? If so, this would be the perfect opportunity to have them color matched. I think it looks a lot better and will do it eventually. Millertime187's had his color matched and he running Mud tires that stick out and no mud flaps and last I heard his haven't pealed or chipped. This photo will give you an idea the two looks.

It's not that hard to paint a panel. There are lots and lots of people on here who have done it without a booth and it looks great.

It's not hard to take out orange peel either. My stock paint looks really flat so as long as you get whatever you painted nice and flat too it will look fine. 1500 --> 3000 and polish it up and your good to go.

For the flares I would probably line-x them personally

Finally, someone that knows what they are talking about.

    http://www.eastwood.com has everything you need.

My uncle had a paint and body shop where he painted show cars. He taught me how to paint as a young kid. If a kid can do it, most people can. I then painted cars as a side business for awhile. I still do jobs for myself and friends and family.

The front fender flares where touched, but barely. After the incident, I experienced tunnel vision on every inch of that front end. Not enough damage to notice from a few feet away (speaking of the flares). Not enough damage there to replace two or paint all four. It didn't help that the people I'd be paying, recommended against it.

That said, I do wish Toyota continued to color match the bumper/fenders on the '12+ regular cabs. It looks awesome compared to the black plastic.

I would think about bed lining it personally. It looks nice, protects against scratches and it' super easy to touch up.

One thing you could try is using a plastic restorer on the flares. It won't fix the scratches but it will make it much harder to notice.

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
The following is sarcasm and intended to be funny, and not directed at Berk. He just spawned my idea with his post

Sorry Berk but you are wrong. "2-3 whacks" is not a process most can do.

One must prep the surface of the whole panel first. Then the whole panel must be repeatedly pounded, much more than 2-3 times.with a very hard hammer. Like 1500 grams.

The surface must then be thoroughly cleaned before a 2nd round of hammer whacking.

A skilled hammer swinger is a must or you will never have the right texture.

So yeah, don't listen to what Berk is trying to make you believe.

Hey Lloyd. You are a fraud. You don't know the first thing about painting cars. It is obvious from your first post on this thread. I guess you think we are all stupid. And sadly, you care so much about your reputation on the site to lie and make it sound like you paint cars. Lol.

Not to mention you changed your username after I called you out yesterday, and then changed it back?

For the scratches in some of the plastic parts, a heat gun might help. But only on the softer plastic stuff, like the fender flares. Put it on low heat and get the scratched areas hot, but be careful to not burn or warp the area. Doesn't always work, but it's worth a try.

What about clear plastikote on the scratches and black on the flares and front? Can you make the clear look like you purposely put it there like the old car bras? Just cover the front sections?

Didn't some people report that the "new" finish disappeared after a few weeks and their plastic trim looked more fucked up than before?

I've done it on my dash. It doesn't fix the scratches what it does is return the colour. Mine had a fairly deep scratch on the passenger side on the dash that was a light grey. It's dark again so it's the same color so you can hardly see it.

It would be nice if OP posted a few pictures of the scratches,

How long ago did you do it? Never done it myself, but for sure wouldn't bother if it wasn't a quick fix.

About a year ago. It still looks pretty much the same as when I did it.

If it was an exterior part I'm sure it would degrade a lot faster just from being exposed to everything.

All it does it make the finish look new again like a oily plastic restorer type product it won't "really" repair anything.
