Our stock Tacoma leaf springs suck. Period. After about 100,000 miles they begin to lose any load carrying abilities.

Add-a-leaf is like a band-aid. Mine only lasted me 6 months of off roading before my leaf pack was flat again.

Best bet is an aftermarket leaf pack.

Nothing, I suppose. I've never worked a Tacoma. (this one fell in my lap about 6 months ago and I like the gas mileage so much -- 21mpg versus my GMC's 15mpg) -- I've been using it more than I expected). Will a new leaf pack be strong enough to hold up to frequent (2 or 3 times a week) loads that average over 500 pounds? I've heard the stock leafs were pretty crappy, even when new.

No I parked it for winter so I won't mess with it until spring. I've got too much other stuff going on.

Thanks. That's what I'll do. Any manufacturers you recommend? I don't want any lift, and I'm hoping to avoid a super stiff ride. (same with front struts)

Some lift, some armor, some scratches..
I'm thinking in your situation an air-bag set up might be a great fit. If your stock leafs are in decent shape, the airbags will help you carry the load and still maintain a stock height. You could also look into Timbren bump stops, they are designed to absorb the stress of heavy loads.

Go to a Sherwin Williams and give them your paint code (or whatever paint code that is) and they'll put it in an aerosol can for you.

A quick gander came up empty.

I know I have them somewhere. I just have to get to the parts pile and look longer. I'll try to make some time tomorrow.

Does the box still have the elbow into the fender? This can be removed for small gains according to Gadget.

He removed it. Wouldn't that make it more likely to get water inside though?

Speaking of airbox stuff, I still haven't done the deck plate mod....

Yeah, I took out the elbow. Honestly, I wouldn't bother with deck plate. Just remove the elbow. Easy enough to reinstall for a snorkel when river fording is required.

The aFe Stage II was what I had before. Way easier to suck in water with that than the stock box minus the elbow. After seeing the inside of the old plenum, decided to go back to a stock box. I'll have to see if I can get some pictures in decent light. Very ugly.

Or I could leave the elbow in, do the deck plate mod, and just put the cover on every time I off road. Which is never nowadays... :(
If I manage to screw up drilling a 4" hole, that'd just be sad...

Oh and the CEL turned off this morning. Plugging the throttle body vacuum port on the S/C seems to have done the trick. Can't wait to get the fuel pump and 2.2" pulley installed then play with tuning it.
