Love it, I think you will be happy if your looking for a long budget lens that is doesnt sharp like a "budget" lens. I love my Tokina 11-16. I still use it on my 6d, but its better on my 60d. I'm thinking of selling it and getting the new Tamron 15-30mm VC that is coming out b/c I really only use my FF camera now.

Tokina 11-16 like everybody says.. I LOVE IT! Its by far my fav. lens.

    Yep

Help me out in understanding the difference in zoom or prime. Prime is fixed with no zoom correct?

Primes are also typically smaller, lighter, less expensive and faster aperture. This is, of course, a general statement about general lenses. There are exceptions. Many are often sharper than zoom counterparts as well.

The only upside I know of to zooms is the obvious having several focal lengths in one lens. Can anyone inform me of more actually. Now that I type this I can't really think of any ha.

Anyway, I also like primes because they don't let me get lazy with my composition just by twisting a zoom when I want to change it. I have to really think about how to make a shot work. Sometimes it's restricting of course, but the majority of the time, for me personally, I find it helps my creativity more than hinders it by a long shot.

Zooms typically have more elements making them heavier. But today's zoom lenses (well, the good ones at least) aren't anything like their cousins. You said you think it makes you lazy when composing, I would argue it allows you to choose a shooting location and compose accordingly. For example; shooting at a wedding a 70-200 allows you to get a shot you could never get if you were shooting with a short prime. By never, I mean it gives you the ability to capture a shot you could not get if you were right in front of someone (expression, mugging for the camera, etc.).

I think saying zooms aren't as crisp might have some truth to it. But again, with today's better quality zooms, that might not be as true today.

I definitely don't think zooms make you lazy at all. I just acknowledge the possibility of being tempted to be lazy rather than move my feet. Ha

Meh. Lots of people shoot primes exclusively. Myself included. All a matter of preference and right tool for the right job.

Primes are the only way to go if your shooting wildlife. They are way sharper and faster, unless you have a 200-400 with 1.4 built in:cool:

Finally got a decent shot out of this damn s5 active. Low lightshots still suck.

Honestly. The shot is great. The processing in shit #2 is way way to over cooked.

Soon as it starts to look not real. Dial it back

zooms dont make you lazy. sometimes you cant get close enough. without zooms some people would never get "the shot." after college i will be spending some cash on a new zoom thats for sure. zooms are the key to a lot of good photos.

Thanks.. I wasn't really going for a realistic look. I used some shitty online HDR conversion, cus I don't have the skills to do it myself. Plus, darker shots = bad for HDR with the wrong kind of camera. In this case, a phone. I agree though, as a realistic standpoint it's not the best. Way to much grain. I desaturated the picture when I was done tweaking and brought the color back except for the truck. Was just an idea. Anyways, thank you guys for your input!
