What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Didn't want a S/C initially for simplicity's sake. But after reading your explanation for finally getting one, I think you've changed my mind... Haha

And while you're here, I have a question for you. Would you know what would cause the fuel gauge to read full when filled up, show half a tank after 20 miles and stay there, yet the low fuel light displays like normal. I've read multiple threads on this and nobody seems to have a clear answer. Only thing that seems to make sense would be the sensor inside the tank. If so, when you do replace your fuel pump, if it requires you to remove that whole system from the tank, do you mind taking some pics for me?

The sending unit alone is $120... Or buy the whole unit used on Ebay for $75...

 

Living in the desert, I don't think too much about water ingestion. That and I hate mud. Seriously hate it. Only time I gave the aFe and water ingestion a second thought was in the mud pit on the Monticello Canyon run.

I kept thinking about a new vehicle. The truck is nice but has a lack of power that kept sparking me to look at getting something else. Of course, the only something else was a 2nd Gen Tacoma which just seemed to much too pay for.

What JBerry said. Let me know if the URD pictures don't suffice and I'll be sure to take a bunch when SGT Taco and I do the fuel pump. The hardest part is just getting to the pump assembly (dropping the tank or lifting the bed) and that isn't all that bad.

 

And that Monticello run alone is why one of my pulleys loves to chirp in the Winter. And I still haven't replaced it...

We'll see if I change my mind whenever I do finally decide to regear. I'm sure 4:88's will keep me happy for a few months, but then I'll be wanting more haha

Yeah, I replaced the A/C tensioner pulley 2 weeks ago. Easy-peasey compared to my old XJ. The space between the bearing and the cover was packed with gunk and the bearing wouldn't spin by hand. That explained the warbling when the A/C would kick on.

 

Two words: "race" & "truck".

 

I'm thinking it's my fan clutch... I plan to replace all pulleys and belts as well, eventually.

I keep coming up with so many things to replace. I was dumb and put all my money towards the bike. Now it's getting too cold to play around on the bike and too cold to work on the truck without my fingers going numb...

You're on 33s right? Are 4.88s pretty common for 33s? Or 4.56? I've got tires on the way and I'm trying to plan gears for the future. I know I'll want my power back eventually lol.

I regeared to 4.56 but I have a manual. I think Box Rocket is still rocking the stock 4.10 with 33s and is ok with the setup.

After getting the S/C, I would be running out of tach with 4.88s.

 

I never got into motorized bikes. MTBs, sure. The two things I like about hitting the trails in the truck: "heat" and "A/C".

 

Hmm. I guess I'll play with it and see how the truck handles the 33s first and then go from there.

 

I wouldn't think much water would get under the hood where the elbow is, unless you crossing deep water, which in that case you should be running a snorkel or something. My truck usual never sees any water anyways besides rain. I think sucking in warmer from the engine bay air is more of a concern when removing the elbow since its no longer connected to the inner fender well. But this can be avoided by cutting of the elbow and leaving the lip that connects it to the inner fender. And with the deck plate you suck in the warmer air anyways. I doubt it even really is that much warmer to make a difference though.

I still have 4.10s with my 33's. With my SC I think its fine. But I am also MT. I'm sure it would pull stronger and be a bit more fun with 4.56's...

 

Actually the 01-04 first gens came in 2 different reds. Rad red and impulse red.

 

Guess I found the color code too heh.
