What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

One day I will upgrade to LED headlights.

The truck lite ones for $500/pair seem solid enough for me.

 

Good plan. Have a buddy doing that. He is on 5.29s and 33s now.

 

Did you have this setup before your SC? I feel like I would feel more pull if I upgraded to 4.56's. I bet most of my extra power available from the SC just goes to turning the larger tires...

 

If you can afford it, just do it. When I installed the 4.56, it was fun to drive again. This was before the S/C. Of course, the armor and winch bogged it back down again. And now, S/C fun-ness!

Actually a 5.29 ring gear is bigger. It's only the pinion that gets smaller.

Just more teeth in them too. Would really go so far as to say weaker. Any diff that explodes is usually due to imporper installation. Which on the 8.4 rear diffs is a bitch and our fronts too.

I am that I did mine right. So far so good..

 

I still feel like 5.29's is a lot for going 75 on the highway for long periods of time....

 

It probably is for an automatic like you, otherwise how do you know?

Jberry HB and Monte know what the different gears are like and all we can do is go off what they say until you do it yourself.

It might actually be awesome but you won't know until you try.

 

I like my 4.30s since it was a cheap swap. I will swap a different axle if I regear again.

 

3rds are easy to swap.

 

X2 on this. I have no issues driving in the mountains with my 295s and 4.10s. But really need lower gearing offroad. When I get to that point, I think I just jump straight to a crawl box and leave the 4.10s.

Yup, that's why I said I hope thatguy18 does it before I do buy gears.

I'd rather buy 4:88's and it feel stock are just slightly less than buy 5:29's and be over-geared on the highway....

 

I am very happy I went with a re-gear. I went 4.88 should have gone 5.29
I am still going with a crawl box for the type of wheeling I do.

It almost is with my manual. Like 3400rpms haha But totally fine. Pulls hills at least. I don't have to downshift for most hills anymore and can actually accelerate in 5th gear haha

would be around 3k with an auto or just under.
