Chance of rain is 60% on Friday night for 93117. Hopefully that helps.

Everyone hates cops till they need one! Yes there are bad ones just like there are bad teachers, bad doctors, bad politicians etc... I'm bias coming from a family that is all la enforcement, but the majority of cops are good and want to help people. Remember most of these stupid ass laws and shit are voted in by the people (or politicians we voted in) cops just have shitty jobs of up holding them.

    Rant over

I believe you will not be able to have a camp fire back there.
Which, imo, is a big part of the camping experience.

Anybody want to join me and friends for a Mojave Road trip November 7-9. I'm leaving SB after dinner and driving out to the Avi Casino to camp the trailhead. Should be 4 trucks and at least 2 dirtbikes going. Dirtbikes must be street legal. No fire restrictions!

That is correct; however, I have a propane firepit which is allowed.

    Nice!

If I wasn't already committed for that time frame, I'd come out and join you guys. Sounds like fun. I'm always in the mood to get away from the business of every day life and go where I'm surrounded by nature & peace and quiet.

Hmmm, not sure what else to say about it :p

    Friday
Depart SB (us, at least) at 6:30pm. (some people are leaving midday from Santa Monica in Los Angeles)
Arrive at trailhead around 12:30am. Set up camp with those already there and sleep by 1:30am after a few beers. Trailhead is here (35°03'06.2"N 114°40'36.6"W). Drive up that road until you see the group (names are Tyler, Garrett, Alex, Dan - that should do it) or camp wherever and come find us in the AM.
Communications: HAM simplex 146.585 or PM for my cell # which should work at first camp.
    Saturday
We are not the early risers, so we usually break camp around 10am. If you are, make extra coffee :D. We'll run the road, see the sites, etc. Camp is projected to be the large rock site near Hole in the Wall. Camp is here (35.139963, -115.404451)
    Sunday
Run the rest of the road. We exit after Afton Canyon Campground and everyone goes home. Exit here (Afton Canyon Campground).

It is required to have a full-size spare tire.
It is advised to have tools to change said tire, extra water, and general recovery gear.
FOUR WHEEL DRIVE IS NOT REQUIRED. I've done this trail in a 1986 Volkswagen Westy van which is almost 1-wheel drive and didn't get stuck.

 now why "almost 1 wheel drive"? my 61 came stock with posi....which is almost like a locked rear diff.....I can get almost anywhere with that thing.

Mine was definitely an open differential. Put it on three wheels and you're done. I'm not sure, but the older busses (not vanagons) were hardier?

If only the good cops would go after and put an end to the bad cops.

And how often do people actually need a cop? When seconds count the police are minutes away.
