    Hi all.

I bought a used Tacoma recently and my buddy just pointed out there are supposed to be buttons for cruise control and volume adjustment on the steering wheel! Right now I have a generic Toyota steering wheel with no buttons on it right now. Does anyone have any experience replacing the steering wheel? Is it easy to buy a "stock" wheel (the one that is SUPPOSED to be in my truck) and install that? Or should I upgrade to something really fancy and aftermarket since I'm already installing a new wheel?

Please let me know if you have any insight on this! I want to be able to use cruise control eventually!

    - Arin :)

I have the off-road package - nothing else is lacking? I think it was replaced at some time. Then again, I could be wrong, I've only owned my truck for a week and a half.

    Edit: found this thread
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/268198-steering-wheel-swap-3.html

and apparently someone has a 2005 with no controls too... I didn't know our trucks could come like that. Does this mean I don't have cruise control?

i know my work truck doesn't have the controls, and its a 2007 trd off road 4x4. I'm thinking the controls were added after 2009, along with little things like the led tail lights.

    Same thing with my 06.

you should still have cruise control, the tab on the right hand side at 4 o clock behind the main grip.

Steering wheel controls is an option; you either have it or you don't. If you don't have the controls, it means you also don't have the corresponding accessories in the engine bay, radio, etc. to make the buttons work, so swapping the steering wheel without adding the other pieces of the puzzle might not help you.

post a pic. Is the wheel even leather wrapped or is it the molded rubber/foam?

don't take this as an insult, but something to consider, i hope you know the difference. You could be driving a base with trd bedside stickers.
a lot of new Toyota drivers get confused with the different packages.

My buddy has a 2005 with cruise control and buttons, so I know it wasn't a thing added later on.

So: Looks like I have cruise control (pic of knob on right side) just not the buttons on the wheel for it. And I'm definitely not replacing my wheel just for volume buttons, even if it's possible to do

of course you dont have buttons for Cruise on the wheel.. thats not a thing.

you are missing the radio/phone controls.. which.. if you dont have those options on your truck.. thats why you dont have them on your steering wheel

If you are curious about the options on your truck, you should be able to obtain a "build sheet" from the Toyota service department using your vin number.

Cruise control is on the stalk which is conveniently placed to manipulate with hands on the wheel. You will have to reach slightly right to adjust volume.

I'm not sure there is a problem. I had volume control on the wheel of my Durango and never touched them. Don't worry about it.

RR diff lock? 4x4? Off you don't have the locker but it's 4x4, it could be SR5 and someone just slapped decals on the bedside

No worries. I can see how you could've thought that how it was written. You might have a frankencoma. Specifically built to ones liking. Trd seats, hood scoop?, rr locker? But it's an offroad. I'm confused

My truck is off-road package. It has salvage title, and a replaced hood since I have hood scoop. I was really confused when I first looked at buying the truck. I'm just trying to figure out what else is missing or replaced. Taco Dan do you have a picture of your steering wheel?
