Just took my handgun class today, what do you guys recommend for a first handgun?
Only shot the 22 and .45 for the class, I'm really liking the 1911.

1911s are always nice. I want a .40sw beretta storm pistol with the constant action. Uses same mags as my rifle. Everybody should have a 1911.

I love my Springfield Armory .40 XD. I have some others, but that stays out cocked and ready as my home defense.

I have a .44 ruger super Blackhawk (single action cowboy) that you should try.. I swear it could break a wrist with the kick it gives..

Nothing wrong with XDs or glocks either. But yeah, .45s are big heavy expensive bullets.

    Too long to list :D
I love a good 1911 and will own a colt eventually. But don't get the cheapest one you can find, they usually have problems. The 1911 design is a good one, but it needs hand fitting to be reliable. And a cheap one with need a long break-in period to be reliable, and it has to be kept crazy clean.

I love my Glock, but I like XD's and M&P's too. The M&P trigger is different than the Glock and XD, so takes some getting used to. I don't have a .22 pistol right now because I don't find them all that fun, but .22 rifles are a hoot! If was me I would get a used Glock/XD/M&P. Or if you can try before you buy, (either use one of ours, or rent) then I'd get a new gun of whatever you liked the most. My Glock is ready to rock, but I need a new trigfer bar eventually.

    I can contribute some hardware too, .22, 5.56/.223, .40, 12 and 20 scatterguns.

    What's your 30-06? Is it a 700?

Price will depend on what you buying for. For shooting targets, my .40sw rounds are 100 rounds for $52. For HD hornady critical defense is 20 rounds for around $30.
