I bought my son an 02 single cab Prerunner and while it came with a Crimestopers brand alarm I am looking for theft prevention ideas, what are you guys doing? I read that the steering wheel locks are easily defeated by cutting the steering wheel with bolt cutters to slip the steering wheel lock off.

Nothing will stop a pro or someone determined enough to take it. But for the average criminal. Deterrents are the way to go. "The Club" is easily removed by cutting the steering wheel, but it takes time to do that. So the average car thief won't bother. Anything that makes it more difficult is the way to go IMO. Really though, I'm always more worried about break ins. So most important there is, leave nothing visible. Anything that can easily be seen might tempt someone. So if you want it? Hide it.

    keep valuables out of sight.
if your an audiophile or he is, don't roll in with your system thumping

and obviously dont make it easy. a determined thief will always get through but you can get most of them to walk to the next if you dont give them a reason to target yours.

the only real theft prevention is get one of those boots the city puts on cars illegally parked and use that to lock it.

beyond that use good judgement where you park and leave it unlocked because locking it will only get your windows broken. I rather come back to no radio then no window and if they want to take the truck they are taking it no matter what you do

but then I never leave anything worth stealing in my truck and I have a plain stock radio by choice

    just my opinion

Lot's of good advice in the prior posts. I would add that tinting your windows helps, as a thief cannot easily look inside to see if there is something worth stealing or what alarm may be installed. Unless the would be bad guy has ample time to work on the truck, he/she will be looking for an easy grab, usually stuff in plain view or the stereo. Many cars to choose from, don't allow his to be the easy one.

The two times I have had my car broken into was due to stuff the thief wanted in plain sight, never had my entire car stolen.

A steering wheel lock and a clutch pedal lock would still be great to have. I use the double hook yellow club on my Civic. Most car thefts are meth heads just wanting to use the car to do drugs in or get around to do their drug deals and dump it. If they see a steering wheel lock they will just move on. Also consider putting in a hidden kill switch. I think I will do that on my Civic actually.

Steering wheel locks are defeated all the time, but that probably happens more often in a rare car like a GS-R or Type-R which is being specifically targeted to be stripped.

Nobody cares about an 02 prerunner, and that's good, a steering wheel lock will help alot.

Hook your battery to the frame to electrify the entire truck.

No, don't do that......but it would be funny.

This. My friend had a cut off switch for the fuel pump hidden in his 240sx. Was broken into a couple times but we always found it down the street at the bottom of the hill.

Fill it with trash, old/dirty clothes, and smear mud on it. nobody will want to steal it then.

You could park it in your garage or fence if you have one.

Actually a thief looking for a quick ride will grab a shitty looking vehicle. Stands out less.
