I have a camper shell and I'm 23. The reason why older guys have them more than younger guys is the fact that they have learned that "sacrificing" looks for functionality is more worth it. I'm happy I have mine. When I moved my family from VA to CO it kept things dry and I was able to pack a bunch of crap in it. it also helps whenever I go camping. Functionality is worth it!

Maybe I'm an old 23 year old man???:D

Who's sacrificing? I think they do both well. Form and function. But I am an older guy :)

That's why I went with this one as my general "truck cap." Neither plain, nor boring. In fact, I'd go so far as to say, "intriguing," even. Not sure what an "asscap" is though.

Ya, I agree. If I wanted a SUV, it wouldn't have been a taco.

I was busy drinking geritol and didn't do any research. Bought a used Leer off a 2009 extended cab and put it on my regular cab 2011. It rubbed the paint off the cab corners and scratched the third brake light. I've since traded the truck but was curious if anyone has tried to modify the front of the shell to fit a rc. I kept the shell and would like to put it on my 2014 rc.....if I can remember where I put it.

i went through the "young and cool" phase. Had to put a "roll bar" with lights on my original taco, and it had to look cool. Then i passed the age of 18, and actually used my truck for things, and the stupid bar constantly got in the way.

After getting my boring old man cap for my current taco, i wish like hell i had had it sooner, both in use, AND in looks..

Just added my old man Leer 100R and full BedRug to my Silver Sky DCLB... I'm still 18 in thought; plus 50 more in age. Had the same setup on my '03 DCSB. Like the LB for sleeping/cargo, etc., etc.., and the long wheel base for highway. I can understand a young man's fancy. Always had to have a two door couple for years until the Chiren's started popping out. After various sets of wheels, i.e., '55 Fairlane, '57 Bel Air, '66 Nova SS, '68 Hemi Roadrunner, '70 Camaro SS, to name just a few I started to see more clearly. ( I think my insurance record shows around 60 vehicles since 1964) The Taco with old man features is the ultimate ride for me in the "midnight hour". So enjoy the ride son, stay young for as long as possible; and remember: it only gets better...
Oh, one last thought. Progress when you can to Van Morrison's "These Are The Days". Good therapy.

Just got a commercial steel gemtop for my taco. The commercial white looks horrible with the spruce mica and (mostly) blacked out truck.

However, the damn thing is sturdy and I'm gonna paint it or bedline it in a week or two which should make it much better. I actually think it will look kind of cool and unique. Here is the commercial 5 lug it came off of:
